The DRO Encoder upgrade for the JMI Telescopes MOTOFOCUS is a logical next step for anyone who leaves their JMI MOTOFOCUS motor mechanism in place on their telescope and wishes to have a digital expression of the focus position.
This is useful for imaging or observing applications; for example, if you want to view or photograph a deep sky object that you've already mapped out with your DRO-enabled MOTOFOCUS, you can just adjust the focus until the digital readout is identical to what you wrote down from before-without any frustration from having to hunt around.
In order for your DRO's digital readout to display repeatable settings from one observing session to the next, you need to leave the MOTOFOCUS motor assembly and DRO Encoder combination in place on your telescope.
The DRO Encoder can also be used with computerized controller software programs, as it has a recessed 9-pin RS-232 port on the top of the focus controller box.
The DRO Encoder's focusing box replaces your MOTOFOCUS' hand control; you don't need to use both at the same time.
