You should get these books even before you buy a camera. Scott's advice is practical, easy to understand and will steer you in the right direction for your next purchase. I saved time and money and now i am taking much better photos also.

These two books are fantastic because the dude breaks down all the dry photographic theory into funny kind of literary bytes that are easy to understand and to practice.
He knows his stuff and he just shows you how to do things rather than explain all the theory behind it. Like he'll say "To get this kind of shot (and there's a picture) you set the f stop at whatever and come in close with your zoom and use a whatever shutter speed...". You can look it up in big books later if you want.
The best thing about these books is that they are small and you can take them on shoots with you. I'm like a mad keen amateur (aspiring to become pro) and I take one or both of these books with me when I shoot...awesome books...awesome!
