Gitzo GT-0541 Mountaineer 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs - Supports 11 lbs (5kg)
The Gitzo GT0541 Mountaineer 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs uses advanced "Carbon 6X" carbon fiber material for its leg construction. This improved tubing is stronger, lighter and as resistant as its 12 layer predecessor. Carbon "6X" is manufactured using a complex, 3-D process weaving 6 layers of carbon fiber into smooth, solid constructed tubes.
The GT0541 is ideal for use with DSLRs with standard zoom lenses, compact cameras, or MiniDV camcorders.
- Anti-Rotation Leg (ALR) System
- The Anti-Rotation Leg (ALR) system makes it quick and easy to open and close the tripod. Simply turn all of the locking rings at once and the whole leg can be pulled out in seconds.
- G-Lock Design
- The G-Lock mechanism has been completely redesigned in order to achieve a 20% increase in rigidity, faster operation and stronger, safer locking. G-Lock's special design also provides a "gravity lock" effect: the higher the load applied vertically to the leg, the stronger the lock.
- Redesigned Upper Discs & Bolts
- This tripod features completely redesigned upper discs and bolts. The discs, which are composed of aluminum, feature a safe lock material that reduces vibrations and improves head locking. The improved high-grade stainless steel bolt design prevents it from dropping inside the column when adjusted, and makes controlling the tread length stress-free. The redesigned bolts are also corrosion and oxidation resistant.
- Ground-Level Set
- This feature allows you to remove the center column to save weight and get the camera closer to the ground. The upper disk is removed from the center column and inserted directly into the upper casting using the column hook. No tools required.
- 1mm Gitzo 6X Carbon Fiber Tube
- Gitzo was able to develop a six-crossed multilayer carbon fiber 30% lighter than the previous 1.5mm generation that features the same exceptional performance of stability and vibration absorption and unbeatable quality.
- Performance Design
- Performance design allows the legs to be set individually at 24°, 55° and 90° to cover every angle you want to shoot.
- Hook
- Redesigned built-in, slef-locking spring-loaded retractable hook on the bottom of the center column provides a place to hang a stabilizing counterweight such as camera, sand or water bags.
- Rapid Column
- Rapid center column, with locking collar, for improved stability.

This tripod is ridiculously light, very sturdy, quick to set-up and take down, and a pleasure to use. I made a big jump up to buy this one, but it's a leap I'm congratulating myself over now. When I hang my camera bag from the center hook, it has the same stability as my much heavier, old tripod had on a windy day. This is a gem.

Great tripod if you want something light. It can hold my gear no problem. I use the RSS BH-40 ball head for its weight ratio. Total weight is about 3-4 pounds. Great if you are backpacking into the back-country. The only problem is I wish it was a little taller since I am 5'11".

I bought this to replace a 10 years old manfrotto which weighs 5.7 lbs. WHat a relief with this new light tripod. I have some concerns of stability when receiving this tripod but it works perfectly for me. My area swiss head is even heavier than the tripod. A little bit costly but worth it.

Fantastic product. 1/3rd of my old aluminum Manfrotto with the same carrying capacity and max height.
Awesome piece of gear when consider hiking.
Only drawback is that when column is removed no head can be attached and thus it limits how low tripod can be placed.

This is the kind of tripod that is a joy to use. Super easy to set up and take down, it looks gorgeous and is so very light yet strong enough to easily hold my Canon 5D with my 85mm 1.2 lens! Although it is expensive, I HIGHLY recommend!

Before purchasing this tripod I purchased a Manfrotto for travel and it was too bulky, heavy and long, so I returned it. This tripod is 4 inches smaller when folded up and weighs a pound less. It feels like it's about half the size of the Manfrotto. It feels like it's a good quality. My one concern so far (even though I haven't gone out in the field with it yet) is that if you unscrew the legs too far they come right off. Aside from that I'm very pleased with it. I will hopefully be as pleased once I get it out in the field and get to really see it in action.

Took the tripod on its first shoot in Arizona where one of the legs fell off. I am confident it can be tightened when I get the wrench (lesson learned...take the tools that come with equipment!) I love that I packed this tripod in my luggage and can so easily carry it around with the lightweight ball head I am using. This is perfect for me as I have a bad back and weight restrictions. It is a big investment!

I used this tripod for the first time on a shoot today for sports (martial arts exhibition). This tripod is very lightweight and sturdy. I used the tripod with it's legs fully extended and as a make shift monopod when the situation arised where I wasn't able to extend the legs as a tripod. It worked flawlessly and quick. The tripod legs extends and folds being locked into position with a half turn on the locking mechanisms,, I love this feature. I used this tripod on my nikon 70-200 vr lens along with my nikon d7000. Worked extremely well. I strongly suggest, if you're willing to spend a little money, to pick one up and you'll see for yourself what I mean

Look no further, you can buy this without any reservations. I bought this after upgrading from much heavier Aluminum one and don't regret a single thing. At first I was concerned using the twist verse the flip type locks. However I find the twists are actually faster and more convenient. If your concerned about it being too light the center post has a J hook where you can hang your camera bag or additional weight. I used it with a RRS quick release ballhead mounted w/a D700 w/grip and 70-200, 80-400 and it didn't move despite it's lightweight.

I use this tripod with the RRS BH-40 head. It is light and sturdy and welcome when hiking many miles in the desert. With the head removed, it will even fit in a standard backpack.
It's sturdy for nearly all applications; esp. landscape.
