The Gitzo GT3531 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs uses advanced "Carbon 6X" carbon fiber material for its leg construction. This improved tubing is stronger than its 12 layer predecessor. Although the tubing is lighter, it still offers the same resistance to vibration. Carbon "6X" is manufactured using a complex, 3-D process weaving 6 layers of carbon fiber into smooth, solid constructed tubes.
The GT3531 is ideal for use with professional equipment, medium format cameras, and SLRs with a 300mm lens, up to 400mm maximum. It offers an excellent load capacity rating of 39.6 lbs (18kg) and good torsional rigidity.

Comments about Gitzo GT3531 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs - Supports 39.6 lbs (18kg):
I primarily use this with an 800mm lens. It is rock solid, light enough for hanging on the back of a pack and, in general, representative of Gitzo quality.

Comments about Gitzo GT3531 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs - Supports 39.6 lbs (18kg):
I use this for wildlife videography with long lenses. When I first put my 15 lb camera on it I was horrified at how wobbly it was. Lots of play in the legs. Even on concrete. I was about to return it. Then I took off the rubber feet and put simple 1/4" screws in the holes instead. Total cure. No wobble. Very steady even in a stiff wind. As steady as my previous heavy 20 year old Gitzo ProStudex.
This tripod has a center pole, which is necessary for the subjects I shoot, and is one of the few available that does. The textured knobs to loosen and tighten the legs are easier to use than those old "ears" on the old Gitzo. It collapses small enough, and is light enough to put in a standard suitcase for travel. All in all a good buy.

Strong and very stable. I use it mostly in the field not the studio and it is just what I was looking for in a stable platform that is easy to carry and assemble.

I USED THIS TRIPOD FOR THE FIRST TIME AT A LOCAL POND WITH LOTUS FLOWERS IN FULL BLOOM THIS WEEKEND. I FOUND THIS TRIPOD TO BE TOP QUALITY, EASY TO ADJUST AT ALL LEVELS FROM A FEW INCHES FROM THE FLOWERS TO FULLY EXTENDED. WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THE TRIPOD IT CAME WITH A CENTER COLUMM WHICH DID NOT HAVE TO BE PURCHASED SEPARATELY. I WOULD DEFINITELY BUY THIS TRIPOD AGAIN AND HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO OTHERS.

Comments about Gitzo GT3531 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs - Supports 39.6 lbs (18kg):
I bought the 3531 as part of the support system for my Nikon 200-400 lens. The other components are the Wimberley Sidekick, Really Right Stuff BH-55 ball head and the Kirk LP-47 replacement foot. This is a perfect setup for this 7.2 pound monster.
Having used the Gitzo 1228 for years, I was awed by the beefy legs and center column of the 3531. You don't have to touch it to see how sturdy it is, but when you do it leaves no doubt--it's rock solid and smooth as silk.
It's big and it's heavy, so I will be using it near the vehicle or on short jaunts. For most serious hiking I'll stick with the 1228.
I can say this with total confidence: if you buy it you will love it.

Comments about Gitzo GT3531 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs - Supports 39.6 lbs (18kg):
This is one incredibly high quality tripod. Spend even a short amount of time with it and you can immediately feel and sense the quality. It is built to last a lifetime. The leg locks only take a quarter turn to activate and are very sure. The center column is a simple arrangement, loosen the large collar and adjust it to where you want it. No gears or anything to get fouled with grit and grime. It has a great hook on the bottom of the column to hand a weight to further stabalize things if needed. I have used this tripod with a large 1D pro camera body and large lenses for extremely long exposures, and for multiple exposures when bracketing for HDR images. This thing is rock solid and unlike many products it feels as though the weight rating was conservative. If you have an expensive body and lenses you owe it to yourself and your gear to get this tripod.

Comments about Gitzo GT3531 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs - Supports 39.6 lbs (18kg):
i love this tripod. it is light and it is very easy to adjust the height of the legs. i was told not to get a center column, but i'm glad that i did. i like that i can make small adjustments to the camera height without having to fiddle with the legs. i thought that the 3000 series might be too heavy and was tempted to buy the 2000 series, but i am definitely glad that i bought the 3000 series. it is very sturdy and doesn't seem all that heavy to me. i wish that i had bought this tripod a long time ago. i love it.

Comments about Gitzo GT3531 6X Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs - Supports 39.6 lbs (18kg):
I've used Bogen and traditional Gitzo tripods as a landscape photographer, and always hesitated to spend [$] for another tripod. The GT3531 is worth every penny, and I wish I had purchased it years ago. The speed of setting up, and taking down is terrific, and the platform is super stable. One drawback are the tips of the legs, which tend to loosen up with use, and require some attention to avoid losing them. This is a minor drawback. Get this tripod.

Paired this tripod with a Really Right Stuff BH55 ball head and have never looked back. The support and versatility is amazing, not to mention easy to operate. I've owned junk equipment and hate junk equipment; this is the anti-junk equipment! It makes my life so much easier when on a shoot, especially when speed is involved and I have to quickly get into a stable configuration. I would never go back. Ever.

Provides a steady platform for my 200-400mm zoom mounted on a D3
Rock steady, can be further stabilized by hanging my bag from the included center column hook.
Expensive, but worth it considering the cost of the equipment I have attached to it. Also the cost of poor shots.

I needed something lighter than my old Bogen combination. After reading the "Serious Support" article by Thom Hogan I paired this Gitzo tripod with a Really Right Stuff BH-55 ballhead. I got the best of both worlds: great support and less weight.

I use it to photo wildlife (80%) and landscapes (20%). The center column allows me to stand erect when taking images. It is fairly light weight & supports my super telephoto lens easily.
It is very well constructed, well designed with great machining.
The carbon fiber legs are very pretty.
This is expensive, but it will last a life time. Younger purchasers will have a lower lifetime pro rata cost than older purchasers.
