Gitzo Quick Release Adapter with 1/4"-20 Plate for Series 1, 2 & 3 Heads
The Gitzo Quick Release Adapter with 1/4"-20 Plate for Series 1, 2 & 3 Heads follows a complete new design. Besides the traditional double-safety locking system, it also includes a lever operated flip-lock which adds to the safety and compactness. Made of magnesium, this adapter is compact and light.
The three bubble levels on the quick release assembly allow you to always keep one bubble in front of you and one on the side, both for horizontal and vertical compositions. This ensures leveling accuracy in any position and condition.

This quick release is not only easy to use but it stays very sturdy on my tripod. It has the quick release button of course but it also has a small clamp that you can flip that will grip extra tight and hold our camera very firmly in place.

I mounted this plate on top of a gitzo monopod. I don't want a full head on a monopod, but I use several lenses / camera with this monopod and want to be able to quickly interchange. This head allows me to do that.
The only problem is the tension adjuster - it seems to spin to freely and needs to be re-adjusted almost every time I change to a different lens/camera.
However when it is locked in, it is solid. I have never had a plate slip out.
I also have the same adapter on a Gitzo ball head on a tripod and it is nice to have a familiar system.

I made the mistake of buying a platform-only (non quick release) Gitzo 3-series ballhead. This item was purchased to upgrade the ballhead to what I should have bought in the beginning.
It installed with no issues onto the platform, and holds my 40D with 17-55 f2.8 rock solid in any position. No wobble at all. The included plate installs firmly onto the base of camera, and the process of locking/releasing the quick release is a breeze. What a huge improvement over the setup I had before!
