Unlike a lot of cheap knock-off Nikon accessories on auction sites that don't quite fit right or aren't made of quite the same quality of plastic, I can report that this one is "the real deal." I would note that Nikon no longer includes a brass thread sleeve for mounting this on a 1/4" screw atop a stand or such, so if that's critical you might upgrade to a speedlight cable with a metal grommet.

I use this speedlight stand constantly. I lost the one that came with my SB900 and had to get a new one. Very handy to use since I use the Nikon CLS flash system. I can quickly attach this to a light stand and start shooting.
One of the missing features on this stand which is a useful one on the SB800 stand, is the extra slots. They allow you to get your flash angled how you want. This stand only has one slot compared to the SB800 stand which has 3!!!
Also the biggest thing that I dislike is a quality issue. The threads at the bottom for attaching it to a tripod or light stand, are made out of plastic. The SB800 threads are made of metal.
Overall if you plan on using the Nikon CLS flash system, you will need to use this stand.

I have one of these from the SB900 i bought here. If you plan to mount your flash on a light stand, the plastic screw threads on this stand will wear out very quickly. This will make your SB900 spin in circles! Buy the Nikon AS-19 from the SB800 instead. It has metal threads and also 3 hot shoe slots so you can change the direction of the flash easily.

I had to replace this light stand because the threads beneath the stand wore out. The thread on this stand is made out of plastic instead of brass or other metal for enhanced durability.
