A macro lens is designed to provide close-up views and strong magnification of small objects, or to show detail from larger ones. This 100mm lens has a 1:1 magnification ratio; in other words, an object in front of the lens is projected on the film plane at life-size.
This particular lens is rather lightweight and compact and comfortably fits in most every camera bag without creating an undue burden on a photographer.
