Comments about CineBags CB-10 LEV2 Cinematographer Bag (Limited Red Dragon Edition, Black and Gray with Red Webbing):
I just received Cinebags CB-10 LE 'Red Dragon' Cinematographers bag from B&H. I chose this model because it was on sale, and the color scheme matches my other gear bags. The bag arrived promptly, was well packed and B&H had the best price on this bag. No complaints there.
The bag itself is disappointing.
The basic idea of the bag is a winner. At first glance, it's a nice looking bag. It has a thin back compartment with a half-zipper for items like chip charts, clapboard, etc. There is a full zipper main compartment that is subdivided into six Velcro retained pockets that are about 4"x5"x7" each, with about three inches of room above each pocket. The compartment splits open with three pockets in each half so access is easy. Sony 7506 folding Headphones, Light Meter, Viewers and similar items fit nicely in the pockets. There is a front flap with a pocket that covers a brief case type set of small pockets and pen holders. Overall the basic concept is good. The problem is the execution. The front external compartment is useless. The pockets are sewn so tight you can't even put your finger in any of them, let alone any other item. So those small items like stopwatch, contrast glass, Leatherman, AA batteries, etc, have to live inside the main compartment. The outside flap pocket is slightly more generous in size, and I was able to put a 6' NEMA cord from an AB Tandem charger in it, but not much else. These days everyone has to deal with at least a couple of cables with every camera, so a compartment for these would have been nice. The next disappointment was the quality of the materials. The zippers, and other materials used in the construction is nowhere near as heavy duty as those bags from Vermont. Compared to the other brand, this bag feels very 'prosumer' at best. In fairness, this bag is about 70 USD cheaper than the other similar bag. On the plus side, all the workmanship was good. Seams are straight, no loose stitching. Despite that, I was on the fence about sending this back, but I'm not that hard on my gear, so I hope this will last for a year or two. Based on this bag, I'm going to be sticking with the guys from Vermont for my next gear bag.
