Most LCD screen protectors fall into one of two main categories; the plastic stick-on sheet or the flip-up housing. Stick-on sheets are prone to peeling off, bubbling, and have no positive optical qualities while LCD hoods or screen covers add bulk and are cumbersome while only minimally preserving the LCD image.
The Giotto AEGIS Glass Screen Protectors are very different in as much as they protect the screen with ultra-high quality Schott German glass while preserving the optical properties of the LCD's display. The Schott glass protection is only 0.5mm thick and adds no significant weight or bulk to the camera body. Most importantly, the glass layer protects the screen from impact, chemical damage and scratches, which can mar a LCD viewing screen. It affixes to a LCD screen with a thin layer of 3M brand double-sided tape, which prevents the risk of air bubbles forming under the glass. An added bonus is that the screen is removable and replaceable if it gets scratched or damaged.
AEGIS 80 Series protectors also feature multi-coatings that lower reflections, withstand UV light, and enhance the overall image display. Both sides of the glass are coated with 12 layers of anti-reflective (AR) coating that provide an outstanding 98% transmission of light in the 420~680 nm range.
Note: Does not include top LCD Protector.

This is the second one I have purchased as a replacement for the factory "bulky plastic" screen protector that comes with the camera. I purchased this one for a D700. The quality of Schott glass is just that - quality. It has numerous layers of coating, and has next to no reflection. Some have commented that it is a shade darker than the clear plastic, but I have noticed very little difference. If you do and it bugs you, adjust your LCD brightness in your camera settings. Issue resolved.
It mounts directly to your LCD screen by a thin strip of adhesive on the interior perimeter of the protector. However, IT REQUIRES YOU TO TAKE SOME CARE WHEN PLACING IT ON YOUR LCD. A microfiber cloth comes with the product, and you should use it on your LCD prior to installation. Both sides of the screen protector have a plastic covering that must be removed prior to installation of the Aegis protector. Clean your LCD as directed, carefully remove the plastic from the protector, being careful not to touch the inside or the thin adhesive strip. POSITION IT CAREFULLY. Once it touches down on your LCD, you can't readjust it.
Thing I like best about this protector are the lack of reflection, it doesn't scratch when you wipe it off like the plastic does, and it doesn't fog up in between the screen protector and the LCD screen like the factory one does. A very annoying thing when shooting in cooler weather and you breathe anywhere near it. The Giottos Aegis doesn't do that, as it adheres to the edge of the LCD. This is optical quality glass - worth the extra few dollars you pay for it. And yes, it can be removed if you damage it or wish to remove it. Once done, I doubt you can re-install it. Personally, I have never had the need once installed.
Although I am very pleased with this product and will continue to buy again for my next camera body, I gave it 4 stars instead of five. This is because it may cause some people to have issues with installation. If you don't take your time and follow the directions, you may not be happy with this screen protector. It isn't a "snap-it-on and go" replacement product. If you don't have a little patience (and I mean little), or are all thumbs, this may not be the product for you. But you don't need to be a surgeon to install it it either…a few minutes of your time is worth the minor effort it takes to get it right.
Bottom line - recommended.

Used the product for several weeks, until it started falling off. It finally fell off in my camera bag and broke.
The unit consists of a thin sheet of glass with anti-reflection coatings on both sides. The glass screen is held in place on the camera with adhesive around the rim of the glass. The glass and coatings are very high quality. The adhesive is the weak point. After a week or two, dirt works it's way between the glass and the camera, weakening the bond. Eventually it falls off. The glass is quite thin, and while it is a strong glass, it will break if stressed. (It is so light that it will tolerate a fall from 3 feet.)
Good thought, poorly executed. One that clips in like the Nikon screen protector with better coatings would be ideal.

Comments about Giottos SP8302 AEGIS Professional Glass Optic Screen Protector - 12 Layer:
An excellent replacement for the original plastic screen protector that Nikon supplies with their DSLR's. The fit on my D7000 is great, and the quality of the glass is superb. Also, the glass is thinner than I envisioned when buying - no more than the thickness of a dime. I hardly notice that it's on my camera. It's a bit pricey, but considering my camera investment, worth it.

Purchased for use on Nikon D7000. Fits perfectly. Looks like original equipment and provides ample protection for the LCD while permitting clear image viewing. Much better than the plastic cover provided with the camera.

The narrow adhesive strip around the edge of the screen came off with the protected film during installation. It made a big mess and became useless. I had to do very delicate work with Scotch double-sided tape to keep the screen on the LCD of my Canon 5D. Very disappointed with the product!!

After reviewing the available options and reading the reviews, I bought this screen protector for my Nikon D7000 DSLR. Although the D7000 is not one of the cameras listed, it fits perfectly and viewing photos on the LCD screen monitor is 100% better than the plastic cover that came with the camera. Smudges from taking pictures using the view finder are easily wiped clean with the cleaning cloth that comes with the protector.

I am a semi-pro shooting vatious topics; sports, family, weddings, outdoor activites, etc. Plastic cover was beginning to show its age. The AEGIS Professional Glass Optic Screen Protector - 12 Layer by Giottos was the perfect choice to rplace the snap on cover supplied by Nikon. Easy to apply, clear and sharp image reviews as well. This is a perfect fit for my Nikon D7000. It has slightly better light transmission properties than the plastic Nikon screen cover.
The Giottos screen cover is very easy to clean and seems to be very scratch-resistant. When outside, it may be a little more prone to glare than the plastic Nikon cover though.

I've been using these on my cameras for at least 3 years now. They do not scratch up or dull out like the plastic ones.
I only replaced the one that absorbed the impact of an object and got an asterisk on it.
Must be some kind of safety glass as it did not shatter. I peeled it off with my finger nail and replaced it with a new one very easily.
The anti glare and tinted coatings work well. I only had to turn up the monitor +1 which it needed anyway.

The standard Nikon plastic LCD protector is annoying. It scratches easily and that adversely affects your ability to see the image. The Giottos glass screen allows a much better view of the image while still providing protection from dust and scratching. The installation is easy.

Fantastic product, slightly pricey but for the exceptional protection worth it. Enhanced viewing of LCD screen in sunlight. Low profile, hard to tell its even on the camera. Unlike most screen protectors, it its self is scratch resistant. And takes more than cleaning it to get even slightly scratched thus allowing for better image viewing.

Well, the fit is perfect for my D700, and it is much better than the cheap plastic cover that comes with like the D90 that scratches up so easy and makes it hard to see in Sunlight. The only downfall I have found with it, is it smudges up very easy. You press the camera against your face to take a pic and it needs to be wiped off so you can see your screen clearly. Other than that, I recommend it if you don't have a screen protector, or have the stock Nikon snap on cover.

Comments about Giottos SP8302 AEGIS Professional Glass Optic Screen Protector - 12 Layer:
I always put an Giottos Aegis protector on my camera's LCDs. Recently got a Canon 7D and learned that unlike other EOS bodies, this one does not have a protective cover that is inexpensive from the manufacture but that the entire LCD has to be replaced if damaged. Was told by the Giottos distributor in the US that the SP8302 is what they recommend for the 7D. Its not the correct size. It is larger than the LCD which means that the "tape" spans the air gap between the LCD and the camera body, and the body is a rough surface - so the SP8302 does not seal properly.According to Giottos-Germany & China, the correct protector for the Canon 7D is the SP8401 - but not available in the USA. Got one from England and it fits perfectly. They are a great product - but get the correct size - the viewing is great, no glare, easy to clean and for [...] a lot cheaper than the $118 LCD replacement on the 7D.

I had been looking for a screen protector for my D300 that was better than the Nikon one (which I don't care for). I have an Invisible Shield on my D40 but there are tiny bubbles (there is a song in there somewhere) and irregularities in it that reduce clarity and I wanted better for the D300. The Aegis screen protector works very well and, as others have mentioned, there seems to be less glare when using it outside. It is the best screen protector solution that I have seen or heard about out there.
I had no trouble with the installation (you do have to be careful and follow the instructions closely- which is a difficult concept for some of us to deal with). I have had it on for about a year and it is still holding on just fine.

Comments about Giottos SP8302 AEGIS Professional Glass Optic Screen Protector - 12 Layer:
I was sort of surprised that it did not clip on to my D700 like the OEM. So it is held on by a foam adhesive band around the rim. You have to position it just right when setting cause it sticks right now. Will require heat to lift it off if you want to change it. That scares me. The garment industry is now cheaping out on sweatshirt manufacture by eliminating the zipper cover or welt. It eats the screens up like a file rubbing on it when I walk. Hopefully this will work and the multicoating could be beneficial but I have not been outside with it yet under the right conditions. There is nothing on the package that assures you it will fit a d700 but it does.
