This camera is by far my favorite point and shoot camera.. Its so much fun to use and the touch screen interface works well.. With so many options to play with it can keep you intertained for hours just playing with it.. The pictures come out with excelent color and clarity.. I would recommend this camera to anyone that wants a fun to use camera that looks good and is easy to carry..

after working with slrs for so long,both film and digital, the convenience of something that fits in the pocket like a cigarette case is pretty amazing. however, there is very little finger room and one has to be careful to keep those pesty digits out of the picture. who can ever argue with a zeiss lens?

I received this camera for Christmas and am not that happy with it. I was looking for a very, very compact camera, so this fit the bill in that respect. i liked the internal storage space idea and loved the high resolution screen. i had to weigh price with features. I thought it was a good value with all of the features it boasts. There are a lot of problems for the Mac user. If you own a Mac much of the functionality of the camera is lost (if this is incorrect, someone please review and state otherwise). Sony's Picture Motion Browser is incompatible with Macintosh. How Sony feels they can get away with this, I don't know, but they have always been very independent. I was aware of the fact that this software would not work with my Mac, but I was told by a Sony rep. that the purchase of iLife '08 would resolve this seemingly fixable problem. I purchased thinking this would be the only problem--that I'd have to do a little extra work in iPhoto to get the pictures back to the camera to make use of the onboard storage space--not the only drawback--see below.

Here are the problems:

1. Yes, the pictures I take on the Sony can be imported back to the camera in VGA format with some work in iPHoto '08 (only landscape pictures seem to work properly).
2. Pictures taken on other camera's will not rotate (if a portrait shot), thus not making use of the beautiful 3.5" LCD.
3. Does not have auto rotate if you turn the camera (my Canon's have it). You have to touch an icon on the screen. This should be a given on a camera that boasts a photo album feature.
4. The organizational features of the camera do not work once the pictures have been imported on a Mac and then imported back to the Sony. Very bizarre. You have the option of viewing your pictures by favorite, faces, folder and calendar. Very cool, but once the pictures come back to the Sony, all you get in the index section is little blue boxes instead of pictures. This makes for a real guessing game when trying to show off your pictures. And Sony does not guarantee that you can use the favorites, calendar and faces feature if the pictures were taken on another camera. Well, it seems even if the pictures were taken on this camera, uploaded to a Mac, changed to VGA size and re-imported to the camera, it doesn't recognize anything in terms of trying to organize your photos. Very annoying and an overwhelming problem for a camera that is capable of storing 40,000 VGA size photos.
5. Okay, problem #4 is the worst to me, but some of you may also be annoyed that the other cool little features are lost too once pictures have been re-imported from a Mac...scrapbook, editing, etc. Camera says file not recognized, or incompatible. These were icing on the cake features for me, but not a deal breaker.
6. The review of a picture immediately after the picture is taken doesn't appear very clear, though when you play it back by pressing the play button it may be very clear. I find this misleading as you might think you didn't take a clear picture when in fact you may have.

The good:

1. Very compact and sturdy. Excellent design. Kudos to Sony for aesthetics.
2. Lots of cool features for the price if you are a PC user.
3. Pictures are pretty good (low light are only ok) for a camera of this size.
4. Wonderful, large LCD that's very clear in all lighting.
5. The touchscreen is more responsive than professional review sites would have you believe. Also, I found the menu organization to be fine. After a few uses and playing around, I knew where everything was.
6. Pretty responsive for a small camera.
7. Battery life is not that great b/c of the LCD and the constant usage of it. Play it safe and buy the NP-FD1 (shows minutes remaining) battery as an extra.

All in all as a Mac user, I can only give this camera less than okay rating since I can't use most of the features. The value of the camera has decreased since I was hoping to get a lot of use out of the internal storage space and photo album features. I thought it would be a great way to tote my pictures. I don't really feel like putting my pictures on it now knowing that they will not be easy to locate once on the camera. If you are a PC user, hopefully the camera will live up to what you've read about it. If I had known what I now know about the camera and all of the incompatibility issues, I would not have purchased the camera. I would have purchased another Canon as they are the only camera I have purchased in the past. Mac users BEWARE!!!
