This clapper does everything it should do. Nice dry-erase surface is great for repeated use throughout the day. Some people say it is difficult to erase, but I think that has more to do with the quality/type of marker being used than the clapper. I tried a brand new marker and it came off easily. With an older marker it took a little more work.
Makes a nice clack sound. Includes a small magnetized surface that helps the sticks come together nicely.
One of the nuts on the back became a little lose, but I tightened it by hand and haven't had a problem since.
The entire backside is also dry-erase which can come in handy.

The dry erase slate works great. Magnet in the clapper sticks is a necessity, which works great.
The top stick on mine, broke very easily. One of the screws came out and the back piece of wood broke so the stick came loose.
I was able to fix with a small piece of gaff tape, and a new screw, but it shouldn't have happened. Especially since I only used it once before the AC broke it, and he wasn't mistreating it at all.
But for the price it's fine, and I'm not to bothered about the broken piece.

Comments about Pearstone Acrylic Dry Erase Clapboard with B/W Sticks (9.75x11"):
This inexpensive clapboard is the perfect lightweight unit to have. When you are shooting video with and DSLR you need to record the audio separately to a digital audio recorder. An easy solution to sync the audio to the video is to use a reference mark provided by the clapboard when starting to film a scene. We've all seen the "behind the scenes" footage of the camera assistant shoving the clapboard into view and then "clapping" the top pieces together to create an audible snap on the sound track while he announces the scene number and take out loud. This snapping sound is use by the editor to put the sound track in sync with the video by matching the visual image of the closing of the blades to the recorded sound. The Pearstone unit has metal discs at the end of the blades to enhance the sound of the snap. Dry erase markers wipe right off with no problem even without the special eraser. A string with a dry erase marker can be easily attached to one of the wooden blades for quick accessibility. I couldn't find any problems with mine. It's sturdy and can be easily stored.

I too had trouble erasing Expo markers. Expo cleaner didn't work and it took scrubbing with non-acetone based nail polish remover to get it clean.
However MARKS-A-LOT Dry Erase markers work as they should. This is an Avery brand. They wipe right off without leaving a trace. I discovered this because I found another company selling this board and they said, "Marks-a-lot dry erase" are the only markers to use. They were right.
Now I love this board

Dry Erase Expo whiteboard markers do not erase on this board. They at best smear, despite using Expo cleaner and fresh Expo markers.
I was finally able to remove the ink using a non-acetone based nail polish remover, but that took lots of rubbing.
WHAT WORKS: Vis a Vis "wet erase" markers work great. These are the markers you would use with an overhead projector. They do require a little moisture like a damp paper towel.
I have informed the manufacturer Pearstone and they are going to investigate if there was a surface change in the manufacturing process.
I have also informed B&H and of course true to their great customer service style will make good on it. There is a 1 year manufacturer's warranty on the board that is serviced through B&H.
In an earlier review I had given this board a 5 star rating. I still like everything about it, except for the expo marker issue which renders the board non-functional. However the Vis a Vis "wet erase" markers work and I will be keeping the board.

It's a clacker and it clacks really well. Plenty of room to write and I like the organization of it's categories.

Was exactly what I expected- professional slate for a low price. Magnetic clapper and just what I need on set. I'm a college student just starting up my own production company and I know that this will be a part of my rig for a long time. A little bit hard to clean dry erase off of, so keep that in mind while purchasing. All in all, I would recommend this product to everyone.

So much better than the Ikan version, built better, cleaner, more durable. The only thing I don't like so far is just the markers that we are using leave letters behind after being erased, until you use expo cleaner on it

I needed an inexpensive white dry erase clapboard for a production. B&H had a huge selection but this was all I needed. I received exactly what I thought would be coming and it works great. It has a weighted black and white 'clapper' with a magnetic end to keep it shut. [...]

This is an easy to use board. Could use a pen clip on the back- but I digress. It's durable and more than adequate for any range of projects. The pre-set write on areas are more comprehensive than others I looked at and do help when editing.
