One of the screws came off during the first day I used this slate. Of course the PA lost in somewhere along the line which resulted a trip to the local hardware store to buy a replacement. I haven't had any problems since and am fairly happy with this slate.

I plan on using this for syncing multiple cameras for editing purposes. I was concerned about the quality because of the inexpensive price. WELL, don't worry I am satisfied and you will be too.

Used for a class project. After slating/ roughly 40 takes, the clapping mechanism (wood w/ screws) did, as a previous review mentioned, unscrew. It didnt break. the screws, because of a tight tolerance between the length of bolt and width of wood, the action of raising and lowering the sticks, the bolts unscrewed, and fell out. THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN, and could be a Pain if not prepared for this. A trip to the hardware store and you can get longer bolts for this slate. For [$], and the price of 3 bolts and nuts, i think its worth it. Outside of it coming apart, its components are quality: Engraved/recessed labels, embed magnets in the sticks, dry erasable and both color & bw readings.

I'm a student film maker on an extremely low budget. I bought this to just help keep track of shots. It does its job, but for the price of what you get, its just a little too much.The badIt loses points in two categories:1) Construction: I was slightly hesitant to buy in the first place due to a review about the sticks being made of particle board. Well that review was correct: it did start breaking down and that started quick but still is functional. The other part of the construction is actually fixable which were loose nuts (a little bit of locktite will do the trick. But I feel this should not be a step that the consumer has to take).2) Price (as of 2/17/2011): [$]. As stated before it's a bit pricey for it to have the prior issuesThe good-The sticks have magnets built into them to keep them from bounce multiple times to prevent improper audio/video sync.-The Fields are just perfect for either a student or a small production-The fact that the acrylic doesn't stain very much when you wipe it clean is also a plus-Color correction bars

I love the color clapper. It makes a nice "Clack".

One screw came loose as I have seen in other reviews, hence the 4 star rating.

I have never used a dry erase pen on it. I use a grease pen which wipes off just fine with a paper towel or cloth.

I am a Professional Videographer.
I used this in Documentary and Short Film.

It is a good piece it is just constructed cheaply. I intentionally looked at reviews and purchased one that I thought was a little sturdier to avoid this.

The clapper is made out of particle board and it began to crack as soon as I started using it. It hasn't broken apart yet but it is only a matter of time before the plastic slate will detach from the clapper.

Also the screws that keep the hinge working loosen themselves due to the clapper action.

Honestly I just expected it to work, after 2 shoots it is about to fall apart.

I use this clapper in my professional video business to sync two cameras and sound, all of which I record separately. The clapper is well-made, allows for easy dry erase writing and makes a nice, crisp, satisfying "Clap".

Works great. Pretty solid. Only problem is one of the screws came loose and now I need to replace it. On a budget, it's a useful slate.

Clapboard works great. I haven't written on it yet, so I can't really comment on how well it erases, etc. Hinge seems very strong as does the arm at top.

What's great about this product is that it's affordable if your on a tight budget. It gets the job done. All in all I don't really have anything to say that's bad about the product.

Pretty nice board for the price but it's built a little cheap. One of the screws came out the first day I had it. I now have to find a replacement bolt. All in all, it is a decent clapper and provides a nice snap.

I read all the reviews on this product before purchasing and felt comfortable with the decision, even though I read the dry erase markers can be hard to remove. Before using it in a production setting, I tested an Expo dry erase on the back and it did not come off so easy. I then tried an overhead projector (wet erase) marker and it came off just fine every time with a damp sponge or paper towel. The only negative of the wet erase marker was that we had to keep the damp sponge handy and damp throughout the shoot. Also when using the damp sponge, you have to have an additional wipe to dry the surface for writing again.

I use this to shoot interviews and love its easy readability, its construction and the fact it is easy to mark on and erase cleanly. The color bars are an added plus in post, and it makes a good audible sound.

We bought this clapboard so we could do multi-cam shoots, and it does its job well. It gives a nice, loud "CLACK!", and the colors give a good reference in post.

Good, solid construction with a magnet to keep the arm down when not in use. One thing the photos don't show is that the top is black and white on the opposite side. So if you don't need the colors, you could always flip it around.

All of the lettering is solid and easy to read, although we don't use most of the boxes. We just make up stuff like "Take - 27B" or "Roll - R12". Nobody knows the numbers don't mean anything, and the fact that it's all filled out makes us look like we have some kind of grand scheme.

Now for the downside. I used a standard EXPO dry-erase marker that I use every day on my whiteboard at home, and it will NOT come off easily. Any time I want to erase what's on the clapboard, I have to break out the Windex and a sponge. Paper towels aren't tough enough. Hence the 3-star rating. Although this CAN be a good thing, as we can write out all the information beforehand and not have to worry about it rubbing off before the shoot.

Overall, it's a good product. And B&H is a good company. So buy it. Because you need this.
