The 82mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Haze HD (High Density) Filter from Hoya is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.
This filter, with its hardened glass, has 4x the tensile strength of traditional filters of similar fabrication. This filter is also of great use in today's digital market where sensors are more sensitive to reflected light. Hoya incorporates special coatings that reduce these internal reflections and, thereby, promote a clearer, brighter and sharper image. The multi-coating used in this filter is made up of 8 layers on each side that promote 99.35% light transmission.
Hoya is one of the largest manufacturers of glass in the filter industry. In collaboration with its parent company, Tokina Optical, Hoya continues to strive to produce some of the best glass on the market. Currently, they hold 40% of the world's market for optical glass.
The advantage of most Hoya filters is that Hoya puts, at least, one layer of anti-reflective coating on each side of their glass. It is not bare glass. Even if the glass is not multi-coated, this kind of production tends to minimize flare and ghosting.

Comments about Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Glass Filter:
The hoya uv haze HD filters are my favorite. No negative effect on image quality. Very easy to clean. Strong construction and they look great. I bought the BW and while it was nice also, I didn't like the brass filter ring. The hoya's use a lighter metal and seem higher quality. Go with Hoya, not BW. Just my opinion...

Comments about Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Glass Filter:
Hoya makes top of the line filters and glass, very sharp and consistent protection for your lens. UV tends to help cut any have or particles in the air to improve clarity and contrast. I leave it on the lens all the time unless I switch to a grad or polarizer.

Comments about Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Glass Filter:
I don't know what benefits the UV filtering has for digital, but I wanted the SMC coating as that has huge benefits. This new coating really does minimize dust, dirt and fingerprints. I'm taking their word about improvements to the image, but it certainly doesn't seem to hurt. Hardened glass is good too. I use this as a semi permanent fixture on my Canon 16-35L. The only time I remove it is when I replace it with an effects filter.

Comments about Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Glass Filter:
Nice, thin filter works well with the lens cap. The better quality is worthwile to use with the new L series (16-35 mm) Canon Lens that it protects and serves. I was amazed with the great colors straight out of the camera.

Comments about Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Glass Filter:
Great overall filter. I use this mainly as a protective cover but also get the benefit of the UV/Haze filtration.
I use this on my Sigma 24-70 HSM (newer version) and the quality of the photos are unchanged and probably better when shooting outside.
