The Hoya Circular Polarizing HD (High Density) Digital Glass Filter represents the next generation of dynamic Hoya filters.
This filter, with its hardened glass, has 4x the tensile strength of traditional filters of similar fabrication. This filter is also of great use in today's digital market where sensors are more sensitive to reflected light. Hoya incorporates special coatings that reduce these internal reflections and, thereby, promote a clearer, brighter and sharper image.
Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
Note! Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems).

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing HD (High Density) Digital Glass Filter:
This is my second set of Hoya's 'HD' filters (I changed from 72mm to 77mm thread). I have abused the 72mm HD Pol filter so badly that the metal ring has dents in it; it still rotates perfectly, and the glass is unmarred. This includes dropping the filter directly on concrete.
In addition to toughness, the image quality has been exceptional, and flare/reflections minimal even shooting with the sun in the frame.
The filters are low profile as well, avoiding vignetting on wide angle lenses, in my personaly experience: the 17-40mm f4L USM vignettes at 17 with a regular filter, and does not with the HD filter.

Excellent quality polarizer but very difficult to unscrew if you happen to tighten it too much. Excellent optical quality compensates for that problem.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing HD (High Density) Digital Glass Filter:
low profile, rotates smooth ,very easy to be kept clean. I would buy the same product again, and again
First I bought 52mm and after i saw the results I decided to get a 77mm for the 10-24 nikkor, even they don't recommend polarizer to b used on wide angle. It does make the sky uneven dark sometimes, but you can see it on the LCD, and decide what to do. It worth having it on wide angle.Pictures are far better with it!

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing HD (High Density) Digital Glass Filter:
I use the product for landscape/waterscape photography and it's superb! The tones achieved with this thing are just great! Used it the past week for some land/waterscape photography and the ND Graduated filters weren't necessary! The tonal range of the images turns perfect with the polarizer! The only bad thing is that's quite hard to unscrew it! So be ware how much you tight it!

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing HD (High Density) Digital Glass Filter:
Now my camera sees the world like I do through my polarized sun glasses. No more overblown photos, no more water reflections destroying the scene and no more flat photos. I just came back from Hawaii and I wish I had this polarizer during my Egypt trip. Where ever there is plenty of sun this gem will come in handy. I could take pictures of turtles and coral from above the water while the rest of the folks couldn't due to the water reflections. Man I love this product!! Wonder why I didn't buy earlier.

I'm a huge fan of Hoya's HD filters. While using them for a season keeping the wind-blown dirt and mud of Montana horse racing off my gorgeous Canon L glass, I discovered these filters wipe clean easier than anything else I've ever used--including top of the line B+Ws.
Great product.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing HD (High Density) Digital Glass Filter:
The HD products are a very nice line of filters that have made their way to all my Canon L and Zeiss ZE lenses. The coating on this filter, as on the UV filters, seem almost indestructible. Not going to go test that theory any time soon. Seem to loose almost a stop which is not bad. Very nice build and its slim profile will works nicely with my 17-40. A cautionary note, on the super wide setting you gain density quickly towards the center. Not good. Inherent in most polarizers if I understand right. All said, I am very happy with this filter and may explore another size for my other lenses.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizing HD (High Density) Digital Glass Filter:
Already using the Hoya HD filter series on all my lenses.
Theses filters are beautifully machined and are of top quality. The coatings are optically flawless and very very durable.
They require little in the way of cleaning, even after being in the tropics.
Dust pretty much blows off them. Smudges? When they do appear, wipe away with little effort.
Back to the polarizer.
I have not had enough time yet with this little gem. It looks as if the results are going to be very nice once I have had some decent sunlight and subject matter to further test it on. Very Happy with this filter thus far.
