Pictures outside in bright light have good image quality, however, the LCD makes it impossible to determine exactly what you are taking a photo of. This, however, is endemic to most point-and-shoots. The IS is helpful in lowlight, where the picture quality is OK, but not exceptional (again, as most P&S cameras). The battery is great as it lasts a lot longer than AA battery P&S cameras. It features smart mode which works to automagically tune your camera to take the best photo. Given the aforementioned issue with the LCD being unusable, this mode may be exceptional, but I cannot comment. It also features specialty modes like sports, night, etc.
Another annoying property is that it takes quite some time from the time you push the shutter button until the picture is taken. As such, blurring can occur due to either the photographer or the photographee moving. The zoom is usable, but is only 3X. Digital zoom has same pixelation as expected from digital zooms.
The good is that it is small enough to fit in a pocket or purse, which makes it good for travel. Given that my complaints are common to a lot of P&S cameras, I will recommend it as a P&S, but only for that reason.
