The Olympus Stylus 1050 SW Digital Camera is incredibly durable, sleek and stylish, combining rugged body construction with shock-absorbing materials and waterproof seals, making it the ultimate pocket camera, and a must-have vacation and party accessory. It incorporates a high quality 3x zoom lens and a capture resolution of 10.1 megapixels to provide beautiful images. Plus it is loaded with features to make shooting easy and fun. Twenty-eight shooting modes are built into the camera to cover many common shooting situations including Candle, Sports and Underwater modes to take perfect shots with a minimum of fuss and effort.
Other unique features include the tap control feature that lets users access select camera features by simply tapping the camera, Face Detection which automatically focuses and optimizes exposure for sharp, brilliant portrait pictures, and Digital Image Stabilization that uses the cameras high ISO sensitivity and faster shutter speeds to freeze the action and capture sharp, blur-free images even if you or your subject is moving. In addition, the camera has a built-in LED that illuminates your subjects when you can't use a flash - perfect for shooting macro photos or low-light portraits. The camera also features 14.5MB of built-in memory and an xD-Picture Card slot that allows you to expand the memory to over 2GB, providing enough storage capacity for hundreds of images.

Bought this for my grandson who was going to Utah for mountain biking and wanted something that was compact and could handle a rough environment. The camera's specification seemed to fit the bill. He just returned and I reviewed his pictures. They were great and he had no difficulties capturing great shots. He went with 2 batteries and a 2gb micro sd card. Took about 200 pictures and never had to change the battery or card.
The only limitation is in taking panorama pictures. As with other Olympus cameras you must use an Olympus card to use the panorama features of the camera. I recommend, therefore using Olympus M xd cards versus a sd card (the prices are about the same) and the limitation disappears. I just purchased a 2gb XD card for him.
The camera is small enough to fit in a purse or pocket.

I bought the camera to use mostly for vacations and photos with friends. In some lighting especially with any sort of Zoom the quality is not very good. It almost makes the picure look grainy/smoky. But then there are times it takes fantastic pictures! So I would recommend it to friends but would warn about the sometimes tempermental zoom.

great camera for outdoor nuts. I can go, shoot and keep going without any hassle. Just a quick one finger operation to open camera and snap. The only issue I've had so far is that the only view finder is the monitor. Sunlight and shadow cause reflection on the monitor that makes it hard to see and focus. A small viewfinder would complete the package and make this the perfect camera for outdoor sports enthusiasts.

I use this camera as my second camera, or my "go everywhere" camera. I've used it in the pool and even in the ocean so far and have gotten spetacular photos! Easy to fit in a pocket book. My only con is the shutter lag.

As a self-declared amateur photographer, I was impressed with the underwater photography but not so impressed with the quality of the photos (above water) in low light situations. I live by a lake so I'm often in the water - I bought the camera mostly because it could take underwater photos. I'm not disappointed with it.
All considering, I would buy it again.

I use this camera for everyday photos and my hobbies including waterskiing, whitewater kayaking. I love the waterproof, shockproof features. Great pre-set settings, lots of options and the best feature is the sport mode, which takes continuous shots, lots of pictures in just a few seconds. Not a high powered zoom, but this was to be expected for the camera type.

We do Surveying for this municipality and needed a small camera for on the go, that was both waterproof and shock proof. In the first two hours we had this camera, it was dropped into a concrete drainage ditch. So not only did it survive the fall with no damage, except for some superficial scratches, but it took on on some water as well. Works just the same as it did when we took it out of the box.

I bought this camera because, first I have one for work. I am a hydrologist and spend hours a day walking stream channels and taking pictures around streams, waterproof is a plus. I also spend lots of time on Montana creeks fishing. Many previously owned cameras have gotten dunked and never recover. Though this camera has not been tested by submerging, it has gotten soaked in my pack from heavy rain storms. So far so good. The large screen and ease of operations are great. The internal menu is easy to get into and follow.

I bought this camera because I wanted a durable point-and-shoot that would stand up to the abuse I'd heap on it as a climber, snorkeler and field researcher. So far I have be thoroughly impressed. Image and video quality are quite good, especially for the price. My only complaint is the rather disappointing battery life- it would be worth getting a spare, especially since Olympus insists on using a proprietary battery. That said, this will be my go everywhere, everywhen camera- the one that I don't have to worry about exposing to rain or rocks.

Perfect camera for me. Lots of salt water fishing and this camera is perfect for getting the great action shots, when you get in just rinse it in fresh water and you are ready to go.
