I purchased this device and owned it since november 2009. I strongly discourage anyone to spend money on this useless device. Up to now I can say that it doesn't support any flash applications, the device reboots. On Wifi it reboots.It takes forever to start it.The presets for the sound do not work. Its almost impossible to easily make playlists unless you spend too much time doing so. The sound earplug input is broken. I only hear from one channel.The color of the device fades. Some videos cannot be played, and Archos wants you to pay for plug-ins. I used this device for 80 days on a regular basis and it did not last. I contacted Archos because of the unsupported flash when goig on the internet and they just replied that they are waiting for an update. I strongly recommend the Apple ipod!!!!!

After being greatly disappointed in the Archos 605 model for a year, I had really hoped and heard the Archos 5 was a vast improvement over the 605, or at least on par with the 404. It blew me away. The interface is fast, so is web browsing and wifi. Video is smooth, the screen is beautiful. While it doesn't support multi-touch I was impressed with the ability to flick my finger across the lists at different speeds. The video interface is wonderful allowing you to fast-forward, rewind, as well as drag your finger over the progress bar to jump ahead. Codec support is great (be aware they implement MS WMP11 tags for m4a and flac files, since there is no standard.) Online reviews are right that the gun metal finish is a fingerprint magnet, but with enough fingerprints, it doesn't look bad and still shines to impress onlookers. I've got 40,000 songs on it already, and a couple videos. Media Portal is easy to use if you need it. Compatible flash apps and widgets are plentiful if you look in the right places. I've only had to force a reset twice since I bought it last month, and with my heavy use and infrequent reboots, that's really quite good! I would definately recommend it to any music lover.

Since I have had my arhos 5 it hasn't left my side. Everyone around me owns an ipod touch but when I pull my archos out they are at an awe. The archos 5 is the ultimate media tablet. If I'm bored and I'm stuck somewhere I don't want to be (Shopping) I just find a free wi-fi and bam I'm surfing the internet. if I want to listen to some tunes bam its right there at my finger tips. My favorite feature about the archos 5 is its ability to play various video files (a great feature when traveling) on the down side to play few flash videos from the internet you have to buy a add on and there are not to many app's like the ipod touch features.
I recommend the archos 5 to everyone and specifically to anyone who doesn't want to fall victim to the "ipod craze"!!!

got the archos 5 after my 604 crashed. This is light years ahead of the 604. the wifi is easy and fun, the sound quality is much better, and the features are great...my favorite feature is the web radio which allows you to listen to any web radio station in the world. very handy for a non-mainstream music lover like me. The touchscreen is sometimes unresponsive and requires a precise tap when clicking on web links. other than that - it awesome.

You can do almost everything with the device but you need the craddle to be able to use all the features.

First impressions: beautiful sleek design, love the rubbery backside and the enlarged screen! I find that the touch screen UI interface is quite improved over the 605, the buttons all flash when you press them so that is a nice confirmation that you hit it. Also, play buttons and such seem to be bigger than before, easier to hit. Although the glossy, shiny look is pretty to look at, it also shows fingerprints (much like the Touch). Not a big deal to me, I'm used to wiping off my glossy surfaces regularly.

The Archos 5 is a feat of genius. I can check my mail and surf the web from any wifi. I can watch days of movies, listen to weeks of audio. Share my pictures with friends. I can record t.v. and any other audio/video source I put in to it (with the dvr station or dvr snap-on of course).

When all is said and done, I honestly believe that there is no comparable product with a big beautiful high resolution screen like this and a huge hard drive. This is it!

found product with a great price and bill-me-later discount. [...]would take it over an ipod or zune any day. screen is beautiful, would recommend loading it through windows explorer and not windows media player; synching through media player took forever and caused a few glitches, though reformatting was quick and easy. and hey, no more clunky, annoying itunes! occasionally freezes for a few seconds and had to reset out of a freeze once, but i'd definitely buy it all over again!

I use the ARCHOS 5 to check emails anytime I want instead of having to turn on the computer. I also use it to download PDFs (so I can read them at my convenience), watch movies and listen to music. I really like the feature that streams music and video from on-line stations. Flash applications can be downloaded and used off-line. Battery life is 4-5 hours.

I purchased the Archos 5 primarily for viewing movies while traveling. I'm very happy with it. The video performance is very smooth and consistent, unlike several other products that I own. The large high res. display is really nice too. Additionally, the web browser and email tool really come in handy when you have access to a WAP. The sound quality is great (with third party headphones). The only complaint I have is that it takes too long to charge with the supplied USB cable. It should come with an AC charger. All in all it's a great product - nicer than I expected.

Good looking screen and great touch sensitivity. The large soft keyboard is easy to use. Wifi connects and runs fast. I wish that at minimum mp4 software was included. Having to pay extra for this software is insulting even though it's cheap. Over all good product.

Got this almost immediately after it went on sale and it was very buggy. Reliability is much improved but still problems with Flash (not fully integrated with the Opera browser). Great screen, good video player, handy for Wi-Fi browsing. Volume is too low, built-in speaker basically worthless.

Great with videos and also a good web browser. Large screen makes it a joy to use. A bit heavy compared to the ipod touch, but it has a much larger screen. Archos tends to launch new models with beta firmware but does a good job of providing fixes. So upgrade the firmware as soon as you purchase.
