The Zeiss 18mm f/3.5 Distagon T* ZF Lens offers a super wide-angle view. It allows the creative photographer to shoot wider vistas, inspiring landscapes, cityscapes and architecture, from a dramatic perspective. It also offers excellent image performance over the entire image field. The precision floating elements design offers constant high performance over the entire distance range, from under 1' (0.3 m) to infinity.
The Carl Zeiss range of T* ZF-mount lenses offer high standards in terms of performance, reliability and, of course, image quality. You can count on highly advanced flare control for crisp and brilliant images. And virtually zero geometric distortion, ensuring precise accuracy when reproducing shapes, especially useful when photographing products and architecture.
Compatible with Nikon's F (AI-S) bayonet SLR system.
- Control of flare and ghosting are outstanding, so that even extreme highlights in the image field do not affect the quality of the image.
- Precise mechanism enables exact manual focusing.

I use this lens for architecture and landscapes and occasionally interiors. It shines in all 3. Sharper than my Nikons of similar focal length.
Pros: Light, sturdy, long focus throw, excellent color rendition, minimal flare, no ghosting, front element well protected by lens hood flange. Images from this lens are sharp edge to edge at all f-stops.
Cons: Lens cap require specific technique: cramp the releases, place cap inside lens hood flange then release. This is difficult but not impossible with the lens hood in place.
If you don't like manual focus, set at f-8, focus at infinity and you'll get 99% of your shots. In close, you will have to focus.
This lens will resolve beyond the needs of the D300 (12 MP on a DX sensor). On the D700 (12 MP on full frame sensor) the images are comprable to the best digital medium format.

I used this manual focus prime lense with Nikon D3 and Nikon F6 cameras in low light conditions e.g. in the caves. I have used sets Nikon SB-900 and SB-800 flashes and get wonderfull photos. I changed F number from 3.5 to 16 (which depends of ambiant light) and I had been suprised with sharp of the photos. Only problems I noticed is in front cover lense (you can't opet in very quickly)
