The Canon XH-A1 is my first HD video camera. With little experience in videography, this VASST training DVD was an invaluable aid to getting started. As noted by other reviewers, the material is well organized and clearly presented, though at a very brisk pace. The DVD is not a substitute for hands-on use of the camera, but without it my learning curve would have been steeper and longer. I also appreciated the section that explains how the HD fits into the spectrum of video formats.[...] I contacted VASST directly, was treated with utmost courtesy, and expeditiously received a DVD that played perfectly. I recommend this training DVD without reservation. It is likely to be helpful even to new owners of the upgraded XH-A1S/G1S.

Most prosumer camcorders have a never-ending list of customizable settings. If this is your first camcorder where everything can be controlled manually, (as it was for me), the choices can be overwhelming. While the Berubes give an overview of the basics of the camera, Douglas Eagle gets into the thick of it. How do you set the customizable settings in such a way that you end up with a usable product, such as smooth Skin Detail or how to optimize the color space? True, the Canon Instruction Manual contains all that information, but it really helps when someone with lots of experience shows you how to adjust each parameter and by how much. This video taught me how to get the most out of my XHA1. After all, the better the clips, the less you need to adjust in post-production.

Nicely done - lots of information - specific to A1 and G1, but not A1s - so it's a little different if you have the newer model(s) but not too much, still quite worthwhile -
Easy to watch, Spot does a nice presentation -
There is a glitch at about 26 mins into the advanced presentation on HDV when he mentions "chromatic abberation," the audio goes whacky, but then comes back into sync. I'd recommend this DVD.

great informational video. The video went step by step on all the features of the camera. It also gave insight on how to setup a baseline on the camera. Very in depth video.

This DVD came free with my Canon XHA1. All in all this dvd was okay, but I wouldn't have paid for it myself. There are plenty of other sources online that do a better job of showing the features of this camera. Honestly I just watched it because I wanted to see actually footage that was shot on the XHA1. It didn't have any.
