Comments about Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Edition Video Editing Software:
I am still new to making documentary films and though I love FCP, it's not yet in my budget. I had an ancient copy of Vegas, this version improves on a program that's fast and easy to learn and use for smaller projects. As non-linear editors go. . .Sony Vegas is fabulous for whipping something together fast.B&H prices are the best. [...] We are return customers and will continue to come here first.

Comments about Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Edition Video Editing Software:
With minimal editing experience (MS Movie Maker) I was able to jump into Vegas and create a movie in no time at all. It's feature rich but not so overwhelming that I couldn't get into it right away.
There's tons of learning material included as well as enormous amounts of information, even user made video tutorials, easy to find on the web. An endless resource for learning this software, just to get something done that you need to accomplish or to become an expert if that's your goal.
The Sony Vegas Forums are also very informative with an active user base. An important consideration for any software purchase these days.
Install was seamless and quick. It didn't try to wrangle me into installing a toolbar of one sort or another and didn't try to take over my computer.
The software runs great on my PC. No glitches or hiccoughs at all.
Editing was smooth and intuitive.
My only negative so far is that slow motion scenes are blurry or have a ghosting like quality to them. Some other comparable softwares do a better job with slow motion.
If not for the slow motion issue I'd have given it a 5 star rating.
Excellent package for the cost.

When I decided I needed some video editing software, I downloaded demos from several companies. I found this was the best combination of price and features for my needs. Using proxy files, this software renders 5D videos without a problem and can output many different formats.

Comments about Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Edition Video Editing Software:
I am still very new at the usage of this program and must say that it has a learning curve to deal with to get the program to produce. It has many onscreen help info, but wish the program came with a printed manual, which is doesn't....
From what I can see, it is a professional mode type of program that can do far more than I will probably ever get into. But after learning a few procedures I have managed to cut and edit a few videos and get a working result in various choices of output quality. All in all I would say it is an excellent program is you have the time to learn it all. As with most professional type programs, it assumes you know more than you actually do, so you have to learn by trial and error to make things work... as I did.
Hard to write directions for use for the multiple, but simple starting functions should be taught up front and I didn't find them, though they might be there...
In addition, I have never had a program put you through as many checks and verification to be able to run the program after installing! It even reads your computer and hard drive to get a code so you have to re-register if you change computers or hard drive to use the program!
They email you verification after input from you on learning this information from your computer.
Talk about piracy protection! But I guess you have to protect yourself now days... But found the procedure one that I never have been through in my multiple years of computer software purchasing.

Comments about Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Edition Video Editing Software:
I bought this because Adobe Premiere Elements v3 was crashing when I tried to make a DVD with both standard def avi and mov files AND HD/Wide Screen mov files. (If I only use standard def avi and mov files, I have no problems with Adobe Premiere Elements.) I thought Sony Vegas would handle the standard def and high def files together – there were no warnings that it wouldn't. Instead, it came upon an error just like Premiere. At least Sony Vegas tells you when it gets the error, unlike Elements, but the end result is the same. AND What's up with needing two software packages to create the DVD? Just let me create a DVD. It makes you do something first with Studio, and then you have to use the other package that's included to make the DVD. TOO CONFUSING and COMPLICATED![...]BOTTOM LINE IS: If you have another piece of software that isn't working, don't assume this one will do the job.

Comments about Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Edition Video Editing Software:
After many years using Windows Movie Maker, I knew I needed more features. For the past year I've tried different apps, but settled on Sony Vegas for a few reasons... 1. Ability to do four video tracks (Windows MM only does one) 2. Green screen ability 3. Compositing. Though I haven't tried them all, Sony Vegas seems to do all of them quite capably. There is a learning curve if you're coming from Windows MM. But the built in help is a good tutor and there are many YouTube videos which show how to get the effect you're looking for. After about 4 days I felt I could do everything I used to do plus tons more.[...]

Comments about Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Edition Video Editing Software:
The Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum works as advertised. It takes some time to learn, especially when editing sound and video. It also did not work quite as advertised with the DVD architect. It had issues with recognizing the DVD software. That seemed to be mostly with the DVD software itself. Overall, I am satisfied with the product.

Comments about Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 Platinum Edition Video Editing Software:
I used an old copy of Premier to edit mini-DV footage for years. When it came time to upgrade to HD, I had blown my budget on the camera and the PC, leaving little for expensisve software. I tried Pinacle but found its handling of codecs finicky, its capture interface glitchy and error-prone. Sony Vegas 9 does everything I could do in premier 6, and so much more. I am a semi-pro wedding videographer and independant filmmaker, so I have pretty high expectations of what editng should be, and for the[$] price you really cannot beat this software. Output footage is crisp and clear with smooth motion, the effects and adjustments all work as expected. There are so many great features that it may intimidate the casual user, but if you know what you want to do, you can find the feature in Sony Vegas 9, and will not be dissappointed. Word of caution, don't try to edit HD on an older PC. I use a quad-core HP with Vista Home edition and this works great.
