I use this external hard drive to back up music, old school files and all of my digital photos. It's a simple, USB-connected drive and requires no software, so it's simple to use. I was looking for a fairly decent sized external drive from a reputable manufacturer and Iomega drives have always functioned perfectly for me with no problems. This drive is slim and you can either lay it flat or place it in the included plastic stand in a vertical position (when vertical it only "sits" in the pictured stand, it doesn't actually "lock" in place so do not place it near the edge of your desk or shelf).

I bought this drive specifically to connect it to an Apple Airport Extreme as a network disk drive; but it doesn't work with the Airport. Research on line confirms the problem. What's worse is that Apple sells this very drive in their store and it doesn't work with one of their own devices. Iomega claims that the disk works fine with all computers and they are probably right but I am stuck with a drive I can't use! Anyway, Iomega refuses to take any responsibility for this and points the finger at Apple. Meanwhile every other manufacturer's drive that I tried worked with the Airport. Go figure. Buyer beware!

Readily reformatted for Mac OS X 10.6.4 for multiple volumes for periodic backups.
Speed is as expected for a USB drive. Quiet.
Sometimes does not connect on a hub port that works OK with other devices. However, connects fine on a different port so the blame likely is with the hub's current.

This Iomega Prestige Descktop external Hdd is simple to install and use. I use mine as a backup for ALL of my files as well as loading my games that I do not want to install on my internal drive.
WHAT IS GOOD ABOUT IT:::
It is A/C powered and does not slow down my computer at all while transfering data from internal to external.
The indicator lite shows when it is powered up and flashes when it is actually being used.
It is fanless, so there is no fan noise.
It has an ON and OFF switch, so it can be used as you desire, or left on all the time..
WHAT IS BAD ABOUT IT:::
I have been using mine for a month now.
So far, I have found nothing negative about this product.

Although the product information said that this product was compatible with Windows XP, my computer (purchased from DELL with Windows XP on it) did not recognize the Iomega hard drive. I followed the Iomega instructions (fixes) up to the point where they suggested I go into my operating system to tweak it. I was not prepared to do this and retured the product to B&H. I purchased a WD#WDBAAU5000EBK-00 for $5 more which worked immediately.

This is a great backup drive. It is easy to install and works well. If you want to put it far from your computer, the USB cable is only 3 feet, so you would have to get a longer cable which you can buy at just about any place. For the drive itself, I would give it 5 stars, but if I include the software, the best I can give is a 3. I gave it a 4 because it is easy to use a different company's software for running the backup.
Using the software that it came with, I had a terrible time trying to get the drive to backup my hard drive. I called their software support and they were not helpful at all. I then used another company's software (got it from the Internet) and the drive works very well--quick backups and no problems.
