i ordered this tripod for a friend who is trying to get started with a small business that involves taping some simple interviews. she didn't have a huge budget, so this tripod seemed to offer all the features she'd need: 2-stage legs, smooth pan & tilt, lightweight, leveling knob, and a sub [$] price tag.when it was delivered, all seemed to be fine until i tried leveling it. first, when the level bubble seemed to be right, it wasn't necessarily level (i know not to always trust it - what you see is most important). i made necessary adjustments for my shot, then panned. yikes! it got so far out of level (by simply panning - on a level surface, mind you) that it was as if i was getting ready to shoot an MTV-style interview with extreme canted angles. nothing looks out of whack on it, but somehow the head is off-kilter and means that anytime i pan, i have to readjust the leveling knob to make sure things are right. not good.i'm assuming that this is not standard for these tripods, so i'll be trying to exchange it or get it fixed (through the warranty, hopefully!).

I am a film student and received this tripod as a gift. I was super excited and had hand selected this specific brand. The FIRST TIME I received the tripod I found two problems1. The release lever that ejects the loading slate was stuck. It was stuck to the point that I called B&H asking if it was going to "break" if I "yanked it". It took a pair of pliers and my father's strength to actual unstick this lever, and there after it was still a difficult process.2. There are two turning locks on the camera that lock the up and downward pan motions. The lock on the left side of the head, opposite the guiding lever, snapped. By snapped, I mean the actual bolt broke in half - half of it in my tripod, half of it in my hand. I didn't even exert force on this lock, I was merely adjusting it.[...]The SECOND time I received this tripod.I VERY carefully opened up the box my tripod came in. I was removing the plastic wrap around the tripod and what falls to the floor?THE VERY SAME SCREW THAT HAD BROKEN THE FIRST TIME.It was not the same tripod, but the same exact spot was broken. This tripod is made of cheap materials and is not meant to last. This does NOT reflect B&H, but the manufacturer that creates this product. I have purchased from B&H in the past and will continue in the future, but to all amateur filmmakers out there looking for their first tripod DO NOT BUY THIS BRAND.Again. DO NOT BUY THIS TRIPOD

Comments about Bescor TH-770 High Performance Tripod System:
I purchased this tripod as part of a package of items I purchased along with the JVC GY-HM150U HD camera.
I had read in previous reviews that some people found the various parts of the tripod to be stiff upon initial use, but I did not find that at all with the one I received.
Based upon the price of this unit--I did not expect it to be of high quality, certainly not like a Manfrotto unit I have my eye on at the local camera store that I frequent--but then again--the cost of this unit is but a fraction of that price of that unit.
As a first purchase, and for the camera I got---which is very small and very light--this tripod is going to do me just fine---at least until the time that my tight budget will allow me to make the jump to the Manfrotto or other top end tripod unit.
I have found this tripod to work well for me, it can be a bit difficult to get it zeroed in on being perfectly level according to the bubble, but I am getting the hang of setting up each time I use it.
While the overall quality of construction and such is not anywhere near that of one of the big name makers, it is still pretty good and I surely recommend this tripod to anyone, like myself just getting into purchasing an HD video camera and who has to get the best bang for their limited dollars when you consider all of the ancilary equipment that one needs to purchase when getting into this field beyond just getting a decent camera and other gear.

5000 dollar sticks these are not. They do the job and can hold a smaller camera with no problems. The movement is smooth enough for videography but wouldnt want to use it on an indie film set. They feel a bit flimsy when fully extended.

The head is poorly built, and is choppy when panning, tilting is ok, but this tripod has ruined a lot of my shots. Bought a Manfrotto 501 head tripod today.

I bought two of these tripods, one which had a lever for the quick release plate that I had to pry open with pliers. Since then, I have had no problem with my purchase. Great for panning although it could be a little bit smoother IMO. Do not overthink that comment, just expected a little less tension but it is great because it absorbs shock better when you grab the handle to pan left to right. It is a great step up from a tripod you would buy like at other retail stores. It lookss very professional and comes with a nice foam-lined carrying case. I love the lever adjustments for the panning handle and how the tripod gives me a professional, sleek look for my dslr cameras.

The tripod fit perfectly! Our last one had broken and we received this about 20 minutes before the taping of a huge training seminar. The camera fit right in and off we went! The shipping was quite fast! Thank you

It was great at first. Now, I can't balance the head. When I pan left to right, the head is off balance. I don't know how it happened.

I've used $4,000 tripods down to $50 tripods. I definitely think you get the most bang for your buck with the TH-770 by Bescor. It's easy to use. And the head moves easily when following objects. Great buy!

Film student, used this product on maybe 2 shoots before the side screw broke clean off during set up. Been having to use it without being able to adjust head. Would love to be able to replace the screw without having to buy a new tripod or head, but there is no way to get the broken screw out.
I purchased despite the bad reviews because the good outweighed the bad, but I was wrong. LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS TOO!

I've had problems in the past with tripods that would not hold the camera proper over time. This one is doing a great job so far. Time will tell....

Comments about Bescor TH-770 High Performance Tripod System:
This is a wonderful tripod but, if you use it as a pro, you will experience parts missing broken, etc. Their is no manual or parts for sale in the USA. So, if something breaks, falls off during a job, etc., you will need to purchase another one. At a [$] a pop, you will be purchasing at least 2 a year. If you are working with it 4 times a Month. This is my Experience.

Needed a cheap tripod to send off with some young guys shooting on Canon Vixia for a church youth group video. Didn't want to send my Sachtler. You understand..
Well, what a surprise! It's a great tripod! Simple, yet smooth action head. Easy to setup, compact, light, etc, etc.
I bought another one today to send off with another church crew!
