You'll never get lost again with the Bushnell GPS BackTrack Digital Compass (Tech Gray) that utilizes GPS technology. BackTrack has only two buttons and stores up to three locations - just mark it and forget it until it's time to return. At the end of the day, select your location and the BackTrack displays direction and distance in either Imperial or metric. Use it to find your car in a crowded parking lot, your treestand or the trailhead, even to rendezvous with your group. It's extremely compact and stows conveniently in your pocket, pack or purse.
BackTrack's especially useful at places such as parking lots, malls, stadiums, parks, and festivals. The BackTrack is powered by 2 AAA batteries, has a self calibrating digital compass, and is weather resistant.

I wanted a simple and inexpensive device to point the way back to the site from which I started and how far away I am. This does it. It does not plot the route and it does not tell you where to turn or that you need to cross a bridge, etc., but if I want a specific route, I'll use a more sophisticated device. All I want to know is where did I leave my truck, where is the place I entered the woods, where did I cache some supplies, etc. and what direction do I need to go to get back to these places and how far away am I so I can estimate the time it will take. This device does exactly that. It will store up to three locations. If you have a sophisticated device and know how to operate it, you may not need this as it won't do anything the more sophisticated device will do. If you like gadgets with lots of functions, this is not for you. If you simply want to know how to get back to the place you started from, this works just fine. I haven't had it long enough to comment on its reliability and durability.

I use this when in a new city to get me home , to find my car in a large parking area and back from a trail.
The product is easy to use and will point you back home (or to car etc).
The primary issue I have is that with elemental GPS systems so cheap, the GPS will do the same plus give specific directions and can be used for trips.

Hunting pheasants with my 10 year old son and took my new purchase with me to play with. An unexpected cloud cover came in and the BackTrack led me back to the exact location of my truck!!!(about 1.8 miles) Won't replace my Rhino GPS but what a easy to use fun little unit.

Recently spent several days hunting in the wilds of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I used the device extensively and it functioned great. Always got us back to the car or back on track where we were trying to go.

I bought 2, 1 for my wife and 1 for me. We hunted in a new location and once set to camp we could get back to camp from anywhere in the woods. I didn't have to worry about either one of us getting turned around in the hills.

We recently purchased this Backtrack GPS for hiking and have used it twice already. It only takes a few seconds to acquire a satellite even in a thickly wooded area. It's very helpful when we are trying to return to our vehicle after hiking. The distance and location have been exactly correct both times we used it. We had to drive 70 miles from home to one of our hikes and we set it to locate our vehicle when we parked. We left the GPS set at this location. After we returned home, we turned the GPS back on and it showed we were 70 miles from where we had parked our car. This GPS is unbelievable for the price. We were also happy with our purchase thru B&H Photo. We will definitely purchase from them again in the future.

The BackTrack is exactly what I expected except that it is larger. Probably about the size of a baseball cut in half and a little thicker then I expected. If it was smaller I would carry it around more. I have tried it and it is pretty easy to figure out how it works.

Bought these backtracks for my boys- I've had 1 for 2 years and love how easy they are to use. I can always get out of the woods within a few yards of my vehicle.

This is the perfect device for those who can't understand the more complex devices, or those who just need to remember where they parked or camped. Works great in the open, and better than expected in the parking garage. Underground parking presents a problem, but that is to be expected.
This is also perfect for me, a tech-nerd, because it is small enough to bring along in a pocket when the fancy GPS just won't work without a fanny pack.

I used this on a trip to Acadia National Park. It was handy to get me back to my car. It is a simple device, not as intuitive as I would like. It is a bit bulkier than expected. Get's the job done at a decent price.

Comments about Bushnell BackTrack GPS-Based Digital Compass (Tech Gray, Clamshell Packaging):
The advertising leads you to believe you can find your way back home with with device but if you cross a bridge over a river or you must use a particular route to get back this device won't help. Why? Because it only gives you a compass bearing. It may find the river you crossed but it won't tell you where the bridge is that you used to cross it. The return is just a straight line bearing which might be over a cliff.
