I'm a professional phtographer and need to store thousands of images each year. I've been using Seagate drives for years and have yet to have one fail. The new FreeAgent Go Portable is the best drive yet. Plug and play on WinXP, fast, and now that it's been super sized to 500GB I'll probably stop using DVD's for archiving.

Based on the other reviews on this site, I thought I would get a good drive for backup of my laptop. The drive arrived and installed easily, backup started, drive died before backup completed. I consulted Seagate tech support then sent drive to Seagate under warranty. Got a refurbed drive 2 weeks later -- it never worked at all -- tried it on 2 laptops and 2 desktops. Seagate tech support's recommendation: get a self-powered drive, not one powered off the USB port. Sent the second drive back to Seagate under warranty. Waiting for drive number 3 -- hoping I have better luck with it.
