I bought one of the first batch of S60s B&H received based strictly upon the Nikon spec sheet. I liked the idea of having an extremely compact digicam which would always be with me, shirt pocketable size, decent battery life, reasonable flash range (for a compact), good zoom range and finally a large LCD.
In retrospect, I should have waited for some user reports because there are so many compromises that the S60 does nothing really well.
All controls are via the large touch-screen LCD and it's not very responsive to finger touches...a second/third actuation if frequently required.
Close-up image quality (IQ) borders on "poor" although "acceptable" at normal ranges unless you're using the flash and then the ISO defaults to 400 (to increase flash range) which produces a rather soft image. Clearly the sensor is not optimized for the "faster" speeds. The ISO can be manually set to a lower level (increasing IQ significantly) but that kind of defeats the idea of a compact point & shoot" with minimal user intervention. The selectable ISO range goes all the way to 3200 but considering that IQ starts suffering as low as 400, the higher settings are merely marketing gimmicks.
OTOH, pictures taken outside in sunlight are very nice...realistic colors with good skin tones, perfectly acceptable IQ with reasonably fast focusing and minimal associated shutter lag. And I particularly liked the zoom range...5X optical.
Lastly, if you have large hands, it's probable that you'll ruin more than a few shots by having a finger partially over the lens which seems to be located in the vicinity of a natural hand hold.
I rate the Nikon Coolpix S60 3/5 and that's a stretch. The extremely compact size, good tele range and battery life plus integral image stabilization nudged it to a 3 rating in my way of thinking. Merely an average point & shoot with a premium price in all other performance categories.
Before making a final decision, take a look at the Panasonic LX3, Panasonic FX37 and the Canon SD790.
Unless you place an extremely small size (and the 3½ inch all-LCD "wow" factor) above IQ. If you do, then the S60 is your camera.

My daughter is interested in photography but did not want a big bulky camera to lug around. The Cool Pix was perfect. She loves it and it does not have a lens that comes out that she could break.

A good little camera with a lot of different options, features, and menus to customize to how you want it. One of the only downsides is in picture review it takes a little while for it to come into focus.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix S60 Digital Camera (Crimson Red):
I had higher hopes for this camera going by the promotional hype. It is a great little producer if the image setting is set for HIGH (10*)and you are shooting outdoors on a nice day. Any lower image setting or low light situation, the pictures come out very grainy. I use it as a pocket camera when I am out and about.

Comments about Nikon Coolpix S60 Digital Camera (Crimson Red):
I use the camera at all family functions, and am disappointed all the time how difficult it is to scroll back and look at my pictures. Do not like the scroll. It constantly messes up. Also pictures come out blurry if you take the picture too fast. Every movement has to be very slow and precise or the camera messes up. Would not recommend this camera. I wish I bought a canon.

I like this camera. I looked at so many cameras before I bought this one and I am very happy with it. It takes great pictures and is pretty easy to use. It does have many options/settings, so if you're into photography you'll probably get more out of it that I will.
I use it to shoot family photos for digital picture frames.

I love this camera! It takes great pictures and is very responsive. One of my favorite things about it is the face tracking. The camera automatically recognizes faces and focusses on them. It'll also let you know if someone blinks. That and its many other cool features make this an awesome camera!

coolpix is a fun to use camera, from the moment you take it out of the
box and the few minutes it takes to set up, you can start the picture
taken. The pictures are great and you can put your captions on them
right there and then, no waiting. This take anywhere camera is one of
my best buys this year, I can never say I wish I had a camera now, because
I just throw it in my bag and off we go..

Comments about Nikon Coolpix S60 Digital Camera (Crimson Red):
What the Coolpix S60 doesn't provide in features, it makes up for in style. The handsomely designed, cinnamon red case will be beloved by young and fashion conscious women. They will also appreciate the large LED display. Beyond that, the more advanced controls are not very intuitive in terms of accessibility--but no matter! As a stylish "point and shoot," it will slide neatly into a purse or jeans pocket and will fill the bill very well.

I bought this to complement my D70 for those times when I don't want to lug around all that gear. I am not at all pleased with the results. Photos are blurry, inconsistent and not quite what I expected. The size, convenience and touch screen menus are logical and functional. Very innovative. The screen is nice but you will still have the outdoor viewing problem in bright sunlight and will have to guess when taking those shots. I think there are better choices out there.
