By halving the Canon HV40's (or earlier models) widest setting of approximately 40mm (35mm equivalent), this adapter gives shots a dramatic depth, particularly with camera movement. As a bonus, the wide angle helps to lessen the impact of hand-held camera shake (doesn't get rid of it, of course, but you tend to notice it more as the angle of view decreases).
Downside? If you place strong horizontal or vertical lines, such as horizon, off the centre axes, they will be strongly bent inward at the outer edges of your frame: thus, a horizon in the lower part of the frame will be in a U-shape. If the horizon was in the middle of the frame, or if a tree or edge of a building was in the middle, the lines are straight.
Also, the "limited zooming" of this adapter is almost nil. As soon as you start to zoom, the image defocuses and the camera cannot focus, even manually. So its really only good at the widest setting of your lens. The other adapter, much more expensive, does allow for zoom-through, if that's what you need.
I keep it on most of the time.

I'm not sure if it is user error. I've taken out the front part of my TM300 and shoot at the widest zoom.
Need to play with it more to understand this issue.

Using it on my Sony CX110 vid cam with 2 step up rings and a uv filter on it as well. I use the filter more so as a lens protector for scratches, cause once the filter is scratched its alot cheaper to replace. The lens is great.

Comments about Century Precision Optics 0HD-05WA-43 0.5x Wide Angle Adapter Lens:
I use the .5 specifically to shot skydiving footage with a sony cx-110. The quality of the footage is unbelievably clear and crisp. Although the lens is wide it is very light. I am very happy with the lens itself. My only complaint is the lack of step up ring choices. I had to order a special 43-30 ring as the lens only comes with a 43-37 ring. Overall I would highly recommend this lens to anybody who wants high quality footage on a tight budget, or where space is a concern.

The inclusion of the 0.5x Wide Angle Adapter in the kit for the Canon HV40 Camcorder and consequent purchase has proved invaluable.
It lends itself magnificently in filming groups or capturing wider areas.

Clear lens, high quality. For my purposes, I might have been better served by a .6 or .7 wide angle lens, but if you're looking for .5 this should work for you. Didn't zoom through as much as I thought, but in those instances can just pop of the lens where you need to zoom closer.

Comments about Century Precision Optics 0HD-05WA-43 0.5x Wide Angle Adapter Lens:
I use this Wide Angle lens with a Sony CX-100 to shoot skydiving videos. It's made very well, nice glass. The .5 is a good choice for shooting "outside" video. 5-10ft away looks very good. Don't forget to get the 30-37mm STEP-UP RING and the 43-37mm STEP-DOWN RING for the CX100 offered by B&H. They work great together. B&H sent a free 43-37 step down with the .5 lens, but it's cheaply made in China and it won't work for the CX100.

The quality remains beautiful looking through this lens. I do a lot of skiing shots and they've turned out great so far. Just FYI - if you're looking for a super-fisheye effect get a 0.3x not the 0.5x

I use this product with my Panasonic HDC-TM300 Camcorder for filming various activities and creating short homemade documentaries.
I like this lens a lot - however the front cap is hard to remove.

This is a great lens. I use it for outside video while skydiving. The lens gets an awesome picture. The only thing is that I wish it came with more step up rings. I had to buy a 30-37mm ring to make this lens work with my Sony cx100. Other than that I am very pleased. Nice Product!

We're doing Real Estate videos and this is just a little too wide. But I shouldn't carp...it's a great adapter.

Comments about Century Precision Optics 0HD-05WA-43 0.5x Wide Angle Adapter Lens:
I bought the lens for my HV30 to shoot band music clips and on first use I dont know what I would have done without it. Nice clear lens, plenty of light and quite sharp and zoomable to about 30%. Although there is some barrel distortion (which I dont mind) it is well worth the money and will be using the lens on a regular basis.

outer cover is nice and tight. Has screw on rear cover.
lens is very wide but not quite the fisheye look, for me thats good.
Inexpensive way to get a feel for this wide a lens before buying an expensive 72mm for my main cameras.
great for the canon HV40.

Having tried many different wide angle lens attachments and being disappointed, I tried Century. I use this lens attachment with my Panasonic HS-300 camcorder and it brings on a whole new world to the camera and into edit. I would recommend this to family and friends as a MUST have in the camera bag at all times.

Comments about Century Precision Optics 0HD-05WA-43 0.5x Wide Angle Adapter Lens:
I bought this after being disappointed in the canon hd43 .7x wide angle adapter. It was heavy and not very wide. The century optics gives me a wide look, and although there is some barrel distortion, I don't find it offensive. You can only zoom in slightly before going out of focus but it is easy to take off and on. I really enjoy using this lens.
