The Leica D-LUX 4 Brilliant Viewfinder attaches to the cameras hot shoe to provide an effective means of framing your image - even in very low light. When using the Brilliant Viewfinder users can disable the cameras LCD display; plus the viewfinder itself does not drain any power from the camera, thereby allowing for additional shots on a full battery charge.

This viewfinder helps you frame your composition quickly for grab shots. For composing more precisely, I use the camera's LCD screen. The markings for the 24 and 35mm (35mm equivalents) focal lengths are easy to see, along with a horizontal line showing the adjustment necessary for correction when using the camera very close to the camera. The viewfinder is relatively bright and clear. (There are worse and there are better viewfinders when it comes to clarity). When the viewfinder is used together with the Leica D-LUX4 accessory grip, the camera can be brought up quickly to the eye to make candid shots. The viewfinder is indeed expensive, when seen as a proportion of the D-LUX4 camera's cost. However, its usefulness may be worth the price for those who value the battery-saving that results from not using the LCD and/or not having to hold the camera at arm's length to frame up the subject. A rubberized eyepiece permits the user to bring the camera to eye quickly without fear of scratching eyeglass lens or eyebrow area.

Comments about Leica D-LUX 4 Brilliant Viewfinder:
Use of the standard LCD is limited in both low and brilliant light. The accessory viewfinder provides a handy tool for composition, particularly for action shots. The cost is relatively high, but even with the viewfinder on the camera fits comfortably in a vest pocket, making the D-LUX 4 my favorite camera.

Whilst a very useful accessory, the price is outrageously high.

Great for close ups, portraits, etc. It sticks out a bit so not ideal for active travel such as hiking. My biggest complaint is the price!

Comments about Leica D-LUX 4 Brilliant Viewfinder:
Good for use in low light situations. It does NOT display any info on the shot -- F-stop or ISO or shutter speed -- but in low light or even very bright light (sunlight) it is very useful and accurate.

Comments about Leica D-LUX 4 Brilliant Viewfinder:
Let's face it...the LCD is not always going to get the job done. Shooting with bright sunlight behind or above you and the LCD is not effective. This viewfinder does the trick. It is large enough not to cause eye strain and it is marked for both 24mm and 35mm frames. I only wish it was less expensive...

The viewfinder enhances the use of this terrific camera. Leica should determine how to reduce the cost, however. Despite the price, I'm glad to own it.

This ViewFinder and the Leica hand grip are highly recommended for the
D-Lux 4 camera.
With these additions, the camera feels like a pro-model.
