The hand grip for the Leica D-Lux 4 is a great addition. I give it four stars only because the price is exorbitant. I bought the Leica D-Lux 4 camera because I'm traveling to Italy and don't want to lug around the huge Canon D1S and lenses. The leica is such a fantastic camera I may never go anywhere without it. The hand grip makes it much more ergonomic, allowing me to hold the camera safely and securely with only one hand. Some reviewers criticized the fact that you have to unscrew it to change the battery and the sd card but it's not a problem at all. You don't have to unscrew it all the way. You just loosen the thumb wheel one turn and the grip swings away conveniently from the battery door. The images I found online for the hand grip didn't show the bottom, leaving you to guess how it screwed onto the camera. It's a strong plastic thumb wheel that screws into the tripod connector and, yes, there is a tripod connector in the bottom of the grip, so you don't lose a thing. If you plan to buy the grip, don't buy the expensive leather case that's made to fit the Leica D-Lux 4. The camera won't fit into that case with the grip fastened to it. I didn't buy the case, having figured that out in advance. Besides, the case is very expensive. You can pick up a nice generic camera case that will accommodate the camera very well with the grip mounted and with a separate zipper compartment to hold an extra battery and the charger. If you can find a Leica D-Lux 4, buy it before it sells out and get the hand grip. You'll be glad you did.

Just got the grip and I must say this is ridiculously overpriced! I would say this should cost no more than $39. I love the camera and was eagerly awaiting the grip and am disappointed. [*] It does help, but its so small it doesn't make that much of a difference, especially if you have big hands to begin with. You have to unscrew this little grip each time you want to take out the sd card or change the battery. That's no big deal but for [$] I thought it would have an opening or little door to access the sd card and battery compartment.

Be aware that this grip does not actually fit on the D-Lux 5. The correct grip for that camera is Leica part #18715.

Comments about Hand Grip for Leica D-LUX 4 Digital Camera:
With this grip it's much easier to handle the body which would be very slippery especially in action otherwise. Only minus is that you have to detach it before putting the camera in the case which comes with the Accessory Kit f/DLUX 3/4.

Comments about Hand Grip for Leica D-LUX 4 Digital Camera:
At first I thought this may not be worth the price and create a bit of a nuisance when changing batteries and photo cards. But, to the contrary, the advantages and great feel of the camera overrides any of this. I am very pleased with this. I loved this camera before I had the grip, but love it even more now. Very nice product and in the long run worth the price.

Comments about Hand Grip for Leica D-LUX 4 Digital Camera:
The handgrip makes all the difference to the feel and handling of the camera - it no longer feels like a point and shoot. It stabilizes the camera in your hand. I feel more in control of the camera - the fact that it covers the battery/card opening is nothing but a minor inconvenience. Highly recommend.

Comments about Hand Grip for Leica D-LUX 4 Digital Camera:
The Leica D-Lux 4 is a great point and shoot, but with my big hands I was afraid I'd drop it without having the grip. I can shoot with one hand now to grab that elusive shot and not worry about the camera slipping out of my hand.

Comments about Hand Grip for Leica D-LUX 4 Digital Camera:
But of course, its a leica part, that why is so expensive for just a piece of metal. It does make the camera much easier to hold and shoot with, but it blocks the entry to the battery and memory card. Not well thought out but it does work.

The D-Lux 4 is a very small body camera and if your hands are larger, then this hand grip is a must. Very solid metal construction and fits perfectly. Typical Leica quality.

Comments about Hand Grip for Leica D-LUX 4 Digital Camera:
I borrowed a friend's hand grip for a trip to Europe. This allows a much steadier grip, and less motion when the shutter release is actually pushed. It also helped in those situations when only 1 hand was being used. I bought this for myself as soon as I returned home.

This grip enables better handling of the Leica dlux 4 camera. The price for the piece of plastic is crazy, but I would buy it again as it makes the camera easier to hold. Leica probably would have been better off offering this device with the purchase of this [$]camera.

Comments about Hand Grip for Leica D-LUX 4 Digital Camera:
Although (like all gear with the Leica name) it's pricy, this hand grip, which screws firmly to the camera's base, makes the D-Lux 4 easy to hold and handle. More than that, it adds just the right amount of weight to give the sense that this small Leica is in the M-series tradition. Highly recommended.

Comments about Hand Grip for Leica D-LUX 4 Digital Camera:
Really helps stabilizing the camera, especially for big hands. You have to take it off to change cards and batteries, but reminds me of the old m-system rangefinders that you had to take off the bottom to change films.
