Tiffen Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Glass Filter for Cokin P - Often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrasty landscapes.
Exposing for the foreground will produce a washed-out, over-exposed sky while exposing for the sky will leave the foreground dark and under-exposed. Graduated Neutral Density filters are part clear, part neutral density. They allow the transition to be blended into the scene, often imperceptibly.
Speaking generally, the 2-stop value (ND 0.6 - the filter's clear portion allows 4x more light to pass vs. darkest portion) effectively compensates average bright sky-to-foreground situations, and the soft transition is applicable more often to a scene than the hard transition

Comments about Tiffen Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Glass Filter for Cokin P:
Using Cokin graduated neutral density for panning shots in video is a problem. They sit in front of the lens at just the right distance that any scratch shows up as a blur, and moves with the pan. This glass filter, at least won't scratch as easily. This 0.9 filter is not as dark as the Cokin P121, but works OK. Also it is less "graduated" than the plastic version, but not a sharp line.

No surprises on this filter. It does all it's said to do. The ballistic nylon case seems bigger than it needs to be, but that's just trivial.

Comments about Tiffen Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Glass Filter for Cokin P:
I've used it in fall landscapes, even though the colors aren't peak yet, and it was just what I wanted. The sky popped out from behind the mountains and the foreground kept it's natural colors. Very versatile, good price.

Comments about Tiffen Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Glass Filter for Cokin P:
I was initially skeptical about the Cokin system of filters. However this product does what it is supposed to do. It can be used with a full spectrum of lens sizes with the adapter ring. The optics are excellent. There is simply no equivalent of similar strength in a circular graduated neutral density design.[...]
