It blocks the light out quite effectively. Fits my Panasonic HMC40 2.7" LCD screen nicely. I can see the whole screen. The elastic band with the velcro tip hold the hood very securely to the screen.

Of course you will NOT be able to easily use your "Touch Screen" menu with the Hood attached, which makes it much less useful, but it will shade the screen in bright sunlight, so........ it is a toss-up!

I have the Hoodman 400 for my Panasonic and love it. Now with dslr's with flip out screen this is another great Hoodman. I use this one my Canon 60D.

The Hoodman HD-300 Camcordrer Hood does what it says. It easily attaches to my Canon A1 camcorder with the velcro straps in the back. It stays in place and blocks direct sun from washing out your LCD screen. Stores quick when not in use. Great tool and a good value.
I always have it handy when I take my camera outside.

Purchased this product for my Sony camcorder. I had the older one (H300) but it was a bit too large. This one fits perfectly for me.

I don't know what to say. I took my camcorder along with the HD-300Video hood on a cruise to the Bahamas. Lots of sun. Once place on the camcorder in bright sunlight I still couldn't see objects on the LCD screen any better then without the sun hood. In seven beautiful days I use it once and then left it in the camera bag for the remaining trip. Sorry this is the truth.

I got this to use with my 60D when shooting weddings. This really helps out with the glare you normally get on your screen.

I was shooting a music video for 3 days from morning to night, mainly outside. There was a lot of walking and camera moves, which meant a lot of focus pulls. I haven't been able to make the investment in a viewfinder just yet, so I bought this. I could not see the screen well enough in the sun to keep focus precise without this. It really helped.

I don't like that you can't close your screen with this on, at least in my case.

I bought this for my CX700V which has a 3" screen. Because this is designed to fit 2.5" to 3.0" screens it's a little small for the 3" models. Because these are touchscreens it's very difficult to get it to fit without activating options on the touchscreen, especially while putting it on. They need one dedicated for each size screen. I would only recommend this if you have the smallest screen size for the model chosen. 2.5" for HD300 and 3.5" for HD400.

This critters fits perfectly on the flip out screen of my Canon 60 D. It does not fit well when the screen is the body position though. It provides more than adequate shade in midday sun.

I take a lot of video outside and always seemed to have trouble seeing what was on the LCD. With the hoodman its made it possible to actually see whats on the screen without the sun glare. It is easy to place on the camera and once off and folded can slip into a pocket.

I use this hood on my GH1 and it is very effective for taking the glare down. For [$] it is well worth the price. Construction is solid and fits snugly around the GH1's screen.

I would prefer a less flexible type of construction and a more positive way to anchor it to the LCD screen. It does accomplish the goal of making the LCD screen very visible in bright sunlight.

I have seen mixed reviews for this item - it does block the functions but hey - that's easy to get around - all in all this is a very handy item to have - folds down and doesn't take much effort to mount and remove.

And for the price - you can't bother making your own.

We use this with both of our cameras. The Panasonic HMC40 and a Panasonic GH1 HDSLR. It works great. We recently took a trip to Sarasota FL and this hood was invaluable for filming in the bright sun on the beach!

GOOD-Two tone color scheme, soft edging, folds flat. NOT GOOD-Panels not cut square, elastic straps too short for XH-A1 LCD, unnecessary loop closure.
