The dedicated Pearstone LHC-EW60C Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with Canon's EF 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6, II, III, IV, V, 18-55mm & 28-90mm Lenses.
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens, by extending and shading the end of the lens. A dedicated lens hood is designed to perfectly match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

I was in the market for a lens hood for some time and I finally settled on Pearstone's. The price was great and functionally I saw no difference between their's and Canon's much pricier version. Just two days after purchasing, I was shooting in a concrete, underground garage and I walked away from my tripod to adjust the light and the next thing I heard was my camera crashing onto the concrete. My T2i survived with only minor physical damage but judging from the cracks and damage to my lens hood, my lens would not have been so lucky without it...
Get one. It's a lifesaver.

I bought this for my 18-55mm lens that goes with my Canon Rebel XS. It does work well at blocking unwanted sunlight. The thing I do not like is that it is hard to put on and take off. I have to take tne lens filter off to get it on and off. I did not have this problem with the ET-60 lens hood. The ET-60 goes on fine with the lens filter on. I am just leaving it on and do not remove it. At present that seems to work fine. I take a lot of photographs. It is more than a hobby. I have taken some senior photos, weddings, sports, etc. I love taking pictures. I would recommend this but I would be sure to tell the individual about the problem.

I was worried about buying a non-Canon brand hood but these are excellent. They look great and fit perfect. I would recommend these to anyone who does not want to shell out money for a name brand.

I wish Canon would ship hoods with all of their lenses... but they don't. It is nice that *someone* makes them. This one works nicely. I do wish it were a bit longer, but it does the job.

Comments about Pearstone LHC-EW60C Dedicated Lens Hood (EW-60C):
The product is very well made and great for all around usage. It works well outdoors to block direct sun rays from hitting the lens. I recently took it to Laughlin, Nv, where the sun is direct and I took excellent pictures with it. It is constructed greatly out of a hard plastic and is very durable. The only down side to the lens hood is that it is a little hard to remove from the lens once on. Overall, great lens hood.

I use this hood with my kit lens (18-55mm). It's a pretty basic hood. My husband ordered it for me because the Canon brand hood wasn't available. The one difficulty I've been having with it is that it's hard to attach and detach when I have the UV filter on my lens. Fortunately, there's enough space in my bag that I can leave the hood on all the time. I'd probably stick with the Canon brand hood if I had it to do over, though.

Good product so far. Had good reviews from others. Was willing to take a chance because it was inexpensive compared to Canon product. Not hard to get on. Was able to get lens cap on with the hood on. Haven't had the chance to download photos yet to see the difference with the hood on. If anything, it'll protect my lens from bumps!

It seems a bit short but with a wide angle lens it has to be. it shades with no vignetting.

This product was recommended to me while doing live chat with a B&H employee. I'm so glad I got this. I also purchased an off-brand hood for a longer lens and it doesn't apply as easily as a Canon hood. I leave my hood on when taking pictures -- day or night. I just got back from a trip to Australia and all my pictures came out beautifully. I'm so happy with this purchase!!!
