The dedicated Pearstone LHN-HB7 Lens Hood is a lens hood specifically designed for use with Nikon's 80-200mm f/2.8 ED D-AF Lens.
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens, by extending and shading the end of the lens. A dedicated lens hood is designed to perfectly match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

I like the feel and the lack of added weight.
The cost is right as well. A good replacement for the cost.

This is just an okay lens hood. It does not attach in "reverse" to allow for a quick switch when you are in a situation where you need a lens hood. Instead you have to pack it away everytime you are not using it.

Not too much you can say about a lens hood. I didn't want to spring for the pricier Nikon one, I bought this one at the same time I bought the lens. Very durable. Only issues I have is that it can be hard to get on the lens (almost like it is a tad too small), and you can't reverse it for storage.

I bought this because I dropped my camera bag, shattered the original and the Nikon replacement wasn't in stock.
+'s The unit looks good on the lens and should provide the same protection that saved my lens last drop. It fits snug once you get it lined up.
-'s The color and texture are not a PERFECT match but close enough that it will go unnoticed by everyone but Nikon experts. If you can live with a little inperfection, or a hood that says "For Nikon" instead of "Nikon" this will do the trick.
The alignment doesn't twist on perfect, but once it's on it's snug and will work well.

Really, this thing works perfectly just like nikon's brand hood. It's snug and has no "wiggle" and does exactly what it should. This hood actually feels a bit sturdier than nikon's. Only difference is that this one is bit more black and not textured like the nikon one.
