I bought this mic to get better sound than I get with the built in mic on my camera. I use it with an Olympus voice recorder and the sound easily meets my needs. It is small and light enough to carry around. I plan on buying a new camcorder in the future and I am sure that this will still allow me to get better sound than I will get from a built-in mic. I haven't tried using it for professional purposes so I cannot comment on it's suitability for that. But for my needs it is great.

I bought this to use with an HD camcorder. The mic on the camcorder itself isn't very good and is, of course, built into the camera. I record pianists for recorded auditions and need a remote placement of the mic.
I found that this mic wasn't as sensitive as I had hoped. As you move away from the mic, the sound diminishes rapidly no matter how I have the switch on the mic set. I had a new battery in the mic and tried another to be sure. That was not the issue.
Also, I found it to be a little noisy adding some hiss.
Just not as I had expected. I returned it for a refund and will keep looking for a mic I do like.

This mic is used for my home recording studio. The stereo mic is what I needed for the ambiance I want from the room I'm recording in. Great price for the effect I need. I've been searching for a stereo mic for depth perception and this Tascam TM-ST1 does exactly what i need.

Comments about Tascam TM-ST1 Mid-Side Stereo Microphone:
The Tascam TM-ST1 condenser microphone was designed as a complement to any small stereo digital audio recorder or can also be used with a sound card in a computer. I purchased it for my Tascam DR-07 MKII for more flexibility in making all sorts of live recordings where I could isolate the microphone from the digital recorder. The audio characteristics are very similar to the attached microphones on the DR-07 so this was all that I expected.
I doubt seriously that the designers were interested in making a studio quality microphone so don't expect what you are not paying for. It does, however, reproduce voice audio as a clean clear reproduction of the original input signal. It is not bad for recording live music but don't go to a concert and hope to get a professional quality recording. You have to compare apple with apples in this case. The manufacturer technical specs are very accurate concerning performance which is actually quite good considering all else.
The TM-ST1 is made well enough for its price with a metal housing and comes with a foam windscreen and matching mount with removable base for desktop use.
The six foot cord is on the thin side and is permanently attached to the microphone. It uses a common 1/8 inch stereo plug on the input side of the mike cord. This is the only thing that I don't like very much but can live with keeping in mind the economical goals of the microphone in the first place.
It does need a single internal AA battery to power the dual condenser elements. It make me wonder why they did this since most computers and digital recorders do offer line power for this need. But power requirements are very small and the battery does last a long time.
All in all, I am quite pleased with the performance of the microphone given the parameters that it was designed for. Just don't go overboard with your audio expectations similar to the performance of a studio microphone costing ten times more..

Comments about Tascam TM-ST1 Mid-Side Stereo Microphone:
The TM-ST1 works well with the Tascam DR-05. It appears to be well made and the inclusion of long connection leads, sturdy and weighty desk stand was thoughtful for users. I would recommend this microphone to users of hand-held high-end linear recording devices as the frequency response and sensitivity are great.
Only bad remark is that I tore the rather flimsy product carton in my haste to inspect and test the microphone.

Not so sensitive and narrow focus. Ideal for recording interviews, etc. on DSLR. Lightweight and compact.

I was looking for something to use with my Netbook on which I run Linux audio software when I travel. I am a musician and wanted something small, easy and decent-sounding to capture song ideas when on the road. This fit the bill and was plug and play under Linux and I assume under Windoze/Apple.
Very happy with it.

I use this to record meetings and violin recitals.
Easy to use, recorded sound seems to be nicely balanced.
Disappointed in the play back volume. It is significantly less than what I would have liked.

I use this mic with my Sony Camcorder. If your camcorder has a mic input, but no shoe or minishoe, this mic is a great choice.ALSO- I use this mic for recording my students with my laptop. It sounds GREAT!! Two settings, one gives a wide, 3D sound, the other is more focused on a single source. It sounds WAY better than the built in mic on my camcorder and it sounds very natural and pleasing on my laptop recordings (using Sonar).I love this thing! So easy! Best [$] I've spent!

I purchased this to use with my Kodak Zi8 video camera, I a singer/songwriter using it for vocal and acoustic guitar music. The choices for the Zi8 are few because it won't accept any signal with high input gain.Using the Tascam with the gain on the Zi8 turned up a couple of notches, the sound was quite pleasing, several steps better than the internal mics. For the money, it's really hard to beat.

This Stereo Mic is perfect for field recording. You can use it with any recorder with 35mm input (minidisc or hard disc recorder). I always bring it to my travels, its small size and rough material are a great combination. It has a 120-90 degree switch, usually I choose 120º for wide-stereo recordings (nature, wallas, ceremonies) and the 90º for puntual sounds.
I used to record with the Sony ECM907, but the sound is warmer and wider with this Tascam Mic.

I use this mic for my outdoor videos' secondary audio. I will usually tie it in a tree or set it on the ground pointed toward the subject. It works good for this application if it is very calm. I usually am able to set it somewhere that is out of the wind, so it performs well for me.

This stereo mic is good for general use... Voice, live music, sound for video, etc. I like the two switchable polar patterns... The integral cable is long enough for video recorder use, and gets the mic away from any mechanical noises in the unit... I would recommend mounting it on a small tripod near the floor... This gets very good response and coverage...
