Sanyo boasts that its VPC-E2 Xacti E2 Waterproof Camcorder (Blue) is four cameras in one because you can record both stills and video on land and underwater (at a depth of 5' for up to 30 minutes). The E2 is perfect for snorkeling, snowboarding, use in the pool, at the beach and just about anywhere there's water or snow. Don't forget about use on dry land though, either. This ergonomically designed camera fits nicely in the palm of your hand, allowing all functions to be easily performed with your thumb, leaving your other hand free to grip the board or adjust equipment when need be. With an 8GB card you can capture up to 8 hours of video and over 2,000 8Mp still images.
Use the generous 2.5" LCD display to compose or play back footage while the 5x optical zoom works to bring far off subjects up-close with no loss in image quality. Other features include digital image stabilization, Face Detection, Super-Fast Start-Up and simultaneous video and still image capture. When you're ready to watch or record your footage to DVD simply connect the camera to your VCR for on TV viewing or DVD recorder for recording.

I bought this camera because I was looking for something that could take good videos of the kids, and that was durable and compact. I was so sick of our larger tape-based camcorder that never got used, mostly just because of the hassle. This camera has delivered 100% and then some. It takes equally good (if not better) video as my old Canon tape-based camera, and it's MUCH more portable and easy to use. No messing the tape transfers anymore either, just a simple upload to the computer and then I can go right to email, upload to share online, or import to the video editor (and a pretty nice one is included too).
Is this camera going to take the best video you'll find? Of course not. Is there another video camera out there that you can stick in your pocket, take from the rain to the snow, from the the pool to the water park, indoors or outdoors and easily get good video that the entire family will love to watch? And for this price? I haven't seen one, and this camera certainly delivers in that regard.
One comment on the image stabilization when shooting video, I was skeptical. However, it works amazingly well. I took video of my daughter skiing, while I was skiing next to her, and it was VERY stable. It works!
My only complaint is the still pictures are not that great, but I already have a still camera, I bought this strictly for video and I think it takes better video than any of the conventional still cameras. It's not the best in low light, but no camera in this class is either, so that wouldn't be a fair criticism.
That being said, I loved this camera so much that when I lost my first one after about a month, I couldn't make it 1 week before I had to order another one.

I bought this camera to shoot family occasions and such. I planned to use the camera a few times a year, nothing regular or professional. The camera is small and handy. The zoom is worthless, a mere 5x. The digital "extension" zoom is erratic and needs a tripod for stability since even a small hand shake produces a great deal of picture tremor. The camera is not easy to hold or stabilize. It would be nice to have the record button on the camera's handle(where a trigger would be) not in the rear of the camera. The software that comes w/ the camera is rediculously complicated and the instructions are hardly helpful to the novice. The battery life is short (< 1 hour) and one needs to remove the battery each time to recharge it. Controls were intuitive and easy to use. There has to be a better camera for the occasional user!

Comments about Sanyo VPC-E2 Xacti E2 Waterproof Camcorder (Blue):
This is my second camera Sanyo. First E1 spent in the Red Sea, though, my fault: I swam with it for about 2 hours. I made her beautiful images: photo and video, underwater and on land. I wanted something similar and when the price got me, I immediately bought E2. This is an excellent camera that has the best specifications for the photo (8mp) and video (60fps). I like how she takes off: clear picture, good color rendition, hoorshy autofocus and exposure metering. Many settings, manual focus. Video me too happy, a good shot at the lack of light. And most importantly - is the camera for snorkeling!

I got a really good deal on this camera. It was a christmas present for my boyfriend, and he is more than happy with it. The clarity of the pictures were definitely better than I thought they would be...especially from a devise made for recording.
only negative: quality of the picture when being taken in video mode...its really not a big deal because it's very easy to switch from video to picture mode.

Haven't used it yet under water but it has performed beautifully for everything else. We've made videos inside and outside in varying lighting conditions and had good results. The clarity of the photos has been good, too, including extreme close-ups.[...]

I only gave this camera a 1 star rating, because I can't give it 0 stars. In bright sunlight, it was OK. However, any other light produced an extremely noisy picture. It was pretty useless.

I use this camera for upclose family video. Easy to use and convenient. Best features are lightweight, compact and waterproof. Also very nice to be able to shoot video and photo simultaneously. The compressed video format is surprisingly good quality and eliminates the need to download/edit/compress standard video.

Bought this to video the birth of my son. [...] It took about an hours worth of video before I had to charge it. The two things I don't care for on this unit is there is no AC Cord to run it on external power so you have to take the battery out when it needs charging. (Buy an extra battery to solve this problem). They didn't design the buttons to be hand friendly when trying to turn the unit on and/or start recording but this isn't a huge minus. The videos came out in Mpeg4 format which will not play on some computers without an FLV player installed. Aside from these issues I had I really like the little guy and will get many great videos from it. Haven't tested the water proof feature yet but will soon. Also I looked at every site I could find that sells this and this was the cheapest price on the internet.

Works great, waterproof, easy to use, very simply and boots fast from standby for quick video and pics. Pics are really good. Low light video is ok but with ambient light, video is terrific. Buy an extra battery with about 1000 mah, you'll need it because you'll use this camera.

I bought this camera because it is waterproof. I take it out and record while I fish from a kayak. It has been great. The only reason I only gave it 4 stars is because it is very difficult to see the screen in very bright sunlight out on the boat. It's ease of use and features are great. The battery life is an issue so I bought an extra.

We bought the E2 for our vacation to Hawaii. It was fantastic! Easy to use, small enough to keep with you at all times - even in a pocket - and good quality for a great price. If you plan to snorkel this camera is a must! Be sure to pick up the optional under-water wrist strap - B&H doen't seem to carry it. You'll want it! My only compaint was with the audio in wind, but that's to be expected for it's size. We chose this one over the larger, higher quality HD - 720p underwater camcorder for it's size and cost. I'm not at all disappointed! The stills look great as well!

I bought this camera for a cruise and it worked out great. Several people mentioned battery life problems, but I didn't seem to have any. I was able to take it swimming with dolphins and swimming in an underground river without any real problems or concerns. I will say that the flash only works in camera mode, not at all during video mode, which was a little disappointing. Also, it does get grainy in low lighting, but for the price and what I needed it for, it worked out great.

Regarding the camcorder: Excellent; compact, can easily take stills or video; image quality appears very good; easy to figure out (at least on basic mode); still need to explore all this camera can do. Tons of capacity w/8Gig card.
Regarding software provided w/camera for downloading/editing video to your computer: Camera comes w/disc of Adobe Premiere software - BEWARE - CAUTION before installing this on your computer; it caused mine to fatally crash - possibly unsalvageable. DISASTER. My only regret with this transaction. I won't hold it against the camera, just BEWARE THE SOFTWARE.

I was looking for an inexpensive SD camcorder and this one reviewed well. This model is getting near its end of life so it is pretty cheap. I'm happy with the quality and the resolution - definitely fine for taking quick and easy vids of the family or your travels. Easy to use.

This camera does it all. I put a 16 gb sd card in it, spent a week on a cruise, 2 different ports, then went and filmed 2 1/2 hrs of a wedding. I took over 400 still shots and 4 hrs of video and it showed 8 hrs and 2500 pictures still remaining!!!!! It feels great in the hand, not too light or heavy, but feels solid. Accidently dropped it on concrete and it still functions perfectly!! Other than short battery life (about 45 minutes of straight video shooting) the only problem is that the preview screen is hard to see in daylight. I solved the battery problem by carrying 2 extra charged batteries.

We actually bought 2 of these camcorders: 1 for our 11 year old son and 1 for Mom! These are great, lightweight, and easy to use. I carried mine around Disney World on our recent vacation. I strapped it on my wrist at the beginning of the day so that whenever a photo op presented itself I could just pop it open and do my thing. The stills are great and the video fun. We bought 8g SD cards and had noooo problems with running out of storage space. I highly recommend this camera. It's easy enough for an 11 year old to operate!
