Sanyo boasts that its VPC-E2 Xacti E2 Waterproof Camcorder (White) is four cameras in one because you can record both stills and video on land and underwater (at a depth of 5' for up to 30 minutes). The E2 is perfect for snorkeling, snowboarding, use in the pool, at the beach and just about anywhere there's water or snow. Don't forget about use on dry land though, either. This ergonomically designed camera fits nicely in the palm of your hand, allowing all functions to be easily performed with your thumb, leaving your other hand free to grip the board or adjust equipment when need be. With an 8GB card you can capture up to 8 hours of video and over 2,000 8Mp still images.
Use the generous 2.5" LCD display to compose or play back footage while the 5x optical zoom works to bring far off subjects up-close with no loss in image quality. Other features include digital image stabilization, Face Detection, Super-Fast Start-Up and simultaneous video and still image capture. When you're ready to watch or record your footage to DVD simply connect the camera to your VCR for on TV viewing or DVD recorder for recording.

I am not the expert videographer but love to videotape my kids at whatever they are doing. Took it on a trip to PA and was able to film my kids sledding in a wonderful snowfall without worrying about damage to the camera. It was also easy to download to my computer. Did have to use memory card for storage but not that big of a deal. As far as duability goes, I have not had it long enough to judge that feature. Overall, I love it!!!

I use this to video lessons in a pool - ideal for this scenario. Small enough to use with one hand easily and get a fine quality video of the lesson above or below the waterline. Wish the battery lasted longer, but that is why I purchased extra batteries and keep them charged at all times!

Comments about Sanyo VPC-E2 Xacti E2 Waterproof Camcorder (White):
I bought this camera in October 2008 and took it to British Virgin Islands for a week on a catamaran with friends in January 2009. The camera survived being underwater in various situations. I never really babysitted it and it worked whole week capturing hours of video. I rinsed it with fresh water after every use and dried it up before opening the battery/card compartments. You can see the video I made from this trip here:[@]The video is a bit jerky and sound isn't very good but that's what you get for the price. It's 5 stars considering all.The second trip for this camera was windsurfing in North Carolina in May 2009. Unfortunately, it did not survive this trip. The water got inside and it just displays green LCD to me.The above takes me to the major con against this camera which is the reason for not giving it 5 stars. It comes with only 90 days warranty and 1 year parts warranty. Sanyo has a repair center in US but the warranty doesn't cover labor and after speaking with someone from the repair center, it would've been more expensive to fix it than to get a new one. Real shame. In conclusion, even though it is a great camera at a pretty good price, I just can't afford to risk buying another one. I'll probably get either Canon D10 or Panasonic TS1 which are rated to 10m (33ft) and take comparable video.

I just returned from a 7 day cruise. I purchased the VPC-E2B with a 4 GB card. I subsequently purchased an 8gb Extreme IV SD card at a great price. I never used the 8gb card. I filmed in the evenings at dinner, during some of the excursions, and at the pool with my sons. This camcorder was exactly what I hoped it would be. I love the form factor and the build feels solid . The ability to take 8mp photos was an excellent plus.
I only recharged the battery once during the trip and needs a charge now that Im home. I am shocked that this camera isn't flying of shelves at this price point. The image quality is ok but not spectacular, but, I wasn't in need of a HD quality camcorder. I needed to capture video of my kids growing up. I am very happy with this camera.

I've used this camera to video my friends and I ice skating, my brother clearing off his car as he threw snow at me and my family Christmas party. My brother also used it to video his hamsters and to video me canning apples.
It fits right in my pants pocket, so I've got it with me when I want it. The swiveling view screen and small size have allowed me and my brother to get some cool angles and perspectives. By the way the screen can lay flipped around flush on the camera body and still display.
The video quality is great in well lit places, but it does get grainy if there is low light.
The camera picks up sound nicely.
The still shots that we've taken seem to turn out well.
While it was snowing my brother threw some snow at the camera, but that is as far as we've tested the camera's waterproof abilities at this point. I'm excited to take it on river trips, it seems perfect for that.
All in all it's a great portable camera to have with you on the go.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-E2 Xacti E2 Waterproof Camcorder (White):
I absolutely love my Sanyo Xacti E1 (newest version is the E2). It is small (easily fits in my pocket), lightweight (about 8 oz w/ battery and memory card). The editing softwear that comes with it is easy to use and the overall quality of the video is amazing. Granted the YouTube versions of you video will look like most of the other ones on there (somewhat blury and grainy). On the other hand if you burn your video to DVD, it is amazingly sharp. I've found the audio/mic to be pretty good. Unfortunately, there is no way to add an additional wireless mic. It stores video to an SD card. With my 4GB card I can get over 2 hours of video that is recorded at the highest possible quality. I paid about $350 for mine but now they are only [$] at B&H.To see some hiking/backpacking type videos shot w/ the camera, go to [@] (my website) and go to the video page link. I've got ones on the following there: Glacier National Park, Mt. Hood, Lake Superior Provincial Park (in winter) and Killarney Provincial Park. The "Killarney" video has an underwater shot in it. If there was anything I would change about the camera it would be to add a night vision mode which it currently does not have. It is really nice to know that if I want to film in the rain or jump off a cliff into the water while filming (which I've actually done), I don't have to worry about the camera. It is awesome.

Comments about Sanyo VPC-E2 Xacti E2 Waterproof Camcorder (White):
We got this camera mainly to be able to take snapshots and video while snowboarding in the winter and swimming with the kids in the summer. There are really no other choices for a point-and-shoot of this size that are waterproof. There is also a nice location for connecting a lanyard and the buttons are laid out fairly well.
On the negative side this camera has the same problems as a typical little point-and-shoot - but even worse. The delay for taking a picture is incredibly long and the position of the flash directly next to the lens invariably produces red-eye.
Overall, this is a great camera for sports video and snapshots.
