Logic Pro 7 turns the Macintosh computer into a professional digital audio workstation and provides the ultimate synthesis of digital audio recording, signal processing, MIDI sequencing and notation. The integration of these elements ensures an intuitive, precise and efficient workflow, reinforced by flexible window architecture, allowing the music to be viewed in the most appropriate way for whatever task is at hand. Additionally, the freely definable user interface can be configured to suit any working style.
The software supports audio at 16- and 24-bit resolution and sample rates of up to 192kHz for both audio recording and playback of internal software instruments. Internal signal processing is based on 32-bit floating-point math. This provides enormous headroom for internal processing, making it nearly impossible to overload the signal. The high level of sonic quality persists throughout the project, even during mixdown to 16- bit audio for CD release, due to the integrated POW-r dithering algorithm.
Logic Pro 7 incorporates a powerful sample editor, allowing precise editing of audio data. Beyond simple operations such as cut, copy, and paste, an extensive suite of DSP tools is available, including time stretching, pitch shifting and formant correction. The parameters of software instruments and effects, as well as those of the mixing desk, integrate into the comprehensive automation system, thereby allowing full, total-recall mixes. The mixer supports a range of hardware controllers, from simple home studio models to high-end professional control surfaces that are deeply integrated into the Logic system.
For owners of Logic Express 6 or Logic Audio Big Box, Apple is providing an upgrade path to Logic Pro 7.
