The Pentax K20D SLR Digital Camera provides the perfect combination of advanced SLR functions and ease-of-use features to satisfy the photo enthusiast and professional photographer. The 14.6 megapixel CMOS sensor offers superior image resolution with maximum control over noise, and the sensor-shift Shake Reduction system is compatible with any Pentax lens ever produced, including the latest SDM lenses.
The camera's advanced 16-segment metering and 11-point AF, with 9 cross sensors, ensure perfectly exposed and focused images, and unique exposure modes, such as hyper-program, Sv and TAv, offer greater shooting versatility along with fully customizable features and advanced functions for advanced photographers. All of these impressive features are controlled by the camera's PRIME image processing engine, which maximizes image properties and allows custom adjustment of image parameters. Plus the customizable features for shooters who demand complete control include the Expanded Dynamic Range function that allows users to gain more contrast/detail in bright settings and Custom Image modes, with six preset options, offer superior control of how the PRIME processor develops images.
Dust Reduction and Dust Alert features eliminate the need of time consuming retouching, and the camera's 2.7 inch high resolution, wide view LCD monitor of the K20D gives a Live View of your subject for more precise composition by allowing the photographer to see the image on the camera's back panel LCD monitor while shooting. And all of these features are contained in a dependable dust-proof, weather-resistant body that allows photographers to shoot anytime, anywhere, even in dusty or rainy environments.
The Included Pentax smc P-DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL is the perfect complement to a digital Pentax SLR camera, providing an angle-of-view equivalent to a 27.5 - 84mm lens in the 35mm format. The aspherical optical elements in this lens contribute to a reduction in size and weight of the lens and offer effective correction of the unwanted aberrations often found in wide-angle lenses, and like all Pentax lenses, it is treated with an smc coating for maximum light transmission, sharp definition, and high contrast images.

Comments about Pentax K20D SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-55mm Lens:
With two setting wheels and a few dedicated buttons it's easy to set up this camera for the kind of shooting you do. I like to directly control shutter speed while keeping an eye on the f/stop I'm getting - and change/set ISO and exposure compensation quickly and easily. A few minutes with the manual and I had the K20 set up to do just what I wanted. Lots of very good, and some great lens available, I've been picking up FA lens, love the SMC 50 f/1.4 for example.

Comments about Pentax K20D SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-55mm Lens:
First, I am not a pro or even close, just a hobbyist photographer. I use the camera for doing what I think is art and just hope that others like it too. I shoot around the city, lots of abstract stuff and cityscapes, street things and a lot of playgrounds and zoo stuff too when with my little boy.
What do I think stand out about the K20? Well there are a lot. I had a K100 before this and like that camera a lot and I do not need more pixels than the 100 provides really, but the change to the K20 adds a bit of something else. Main thing is the detail and colors both seem to be stronger with the K20, especially outdoors. The other is the ergonomics of the grip areas of the K20 are better, easier to hold. Next is there are a lot of the controls that are inside menus on the other models, now on the outside of the camera. You can adjust the aperture and shutter for instance in certain modes, at the same time, with dials on the camera. I think I could go on a bit on some other things but these are my main fav points. I still think the 100d is great too but the K20 is a fantastic upgrade if you can do it.
What I don't like about it? .... hmm nothing on it that I dont like. I would like to add some features to it. Mainly to have two memory card slots in the camera and allow say RAW to go to one and JPEG to go to another at the same time. Have heard of other cameras that can do this and it is the only thing I really kind of want to do that I cannot. Another is that I don't need the button for switching from RAW to JPEG etc on the outside of the camera. I can hit it accidentally and just .. that is one thing I could do in the menu.

Comments about Pentax K20D SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-55mm Lens:
I've had this camera for a year now. It has been in the back of my jeep throughout southern nevada, off-road races, and on deep sea fishing trips out in the pacific. It has treated me great. I feel much more condfedent that is will provide years of service than other brands of the same price range considering the "use/abuse" that I submit it to. Highly recommend.

Comments about Pentax K20D SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-55mm Lens:
New to photography. Bought the camera to help taking pictures for paintings, vacations, family and insurance. Read an article to get off automatic. Never used automatic and have good and bad pictures. Really like my camera. Good website for beginnershttp://digital-photography-schoo[@]I had an old pentax and lenses worked on new camera. That was a bonus for me. Like the weight, don't want video, have not used all features but still exploring.

Comments about Pentax K20D SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-55mm Lens:
I got this thing about 4-5 weeks ago. I've shot over 1600 pictures with it over the past month.
Pros-
I used the Pentax *ist and K100D, and this is a huge improvement over them both. At first i was a bit scared when they changed it, but its excellent and i'm not disappointed with any major aspect. The pictures come off a bit darker than i would like, mostly when its darker. I didn't know about the RAW+ feature until recently, but its really nice, I shoot RAW and a 2MP jpg for regular viewing. It works like a charm. I skipped the software bundled with it, I don't care for anything much than Photoshop or GIMP. With that, I went straight to the .DNG digital RAW file format, and it works great with PS CS3. Also, this thing is packed with useful features, especially coming from the K100D.
Overall-
Excellent range of features
Megapixels/Picture Quality
Good construction. Its kind of heavy, but i like it that way.
Fits in my hand well
Live view
Battery life- Averaged 750 picts/battery
-Cons
When i got it I was a bit disappointed with the quality, but I realized that I was going to have to do some of that manually, since it was rainy/snowy and dark most of the time for the next few days when I really wanted to shoot with it. Afterwards, it has been a lot better. Other than that, i have little to complain about.
About the lens, it's my favorite one I have. I'm highly disappointed with my telephoto lens on this, because It's quality is slightly off. I'm not a pro in lenses, but I think this is decent bundled with it, and takes good quality pictures.
I don't think you can really beat this thing for it's generation right now. All the others are typically a few hundred dollars more. This is an excellent buy. I'm very satisfied with it, especially moving on from older DSLRs

Comments about Pentax K20D SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-55mm Lens:
I haven't had much opportunity to get too deep into the wide array of features this camera has, but what I've done with it so far has been very satisfying. I'm really glad that the in-body anti-shake function works with my older Pentax lenses, that was one of the selling points for me. I've always had good luck with Pentax bodies and lenses.
I was also pleased that the kit came with the AL II version of the 18-55 lens. It wasn't clear in the listing at B&H if it was the updated lens, but when the package arrived I was pleasantly surprised.
As others have mentioned, the live-view mode is not as useful as some other brands newer offerings, but I don't plan on using it much at all, so it's not a factor for me.
All in all, I'm happy with the purchase!

I have had the camera for a month and find it capable of doing everything I desire. AS I expected. it offers me all the controls I wanted. The only down side is learning all of them. That is part of the fun however.

I decided to go with Pentax not so much for the camera but mostly for the amazing prime Ltd's lenses. I shoot mostly street here in NYC and I need a fast small lenses.
but!! the k20d was the biggest surprise. what a fantastic camera... what colors!!! great high ISO performers, it feel solid and durable more then most SLR around and the results I am getting with this camera easley compete with my friends high end full frame canons and Nikon's

Comments about Pentax K20D SLR Digital Camera Kit with 18-55mm Lens:
Solid - heavy enough to sit still on a tripod with a big lens in a strong wind but not too heavy to carry comfortably. I had planned on adding the battery grip for extra weight and haven't needed to. The weather protection also adds to the solid feel.
I prefer to spot meter and shoot manual with film, but find myself using auto.
My only complaint is silly - it does so much there's a lot to learn. I actually took it out of the box, charged the battery, and took it on a shoot. Found all but one of the advanced features I wanted to use. When I later looked for it in the manual I found 3 more things I didn't know the camera could do. So some study time with the manual is warranted.
The white balance system is wonderful. Live View with grid very helpful in architectural work.
