The Kirk BL-D700 Compact L-Bracket is an ultra-compact and lightweight L-bracket that is custom designed to snugly fit a Nikon D700 camera body. Machined from one single piece of 6061T6 industrial strength aluminum, it provides full access to all switches, sockets, and the battery drawer. This design allows you to release, turn, and remount your camera in mere seconds, when switching from horizontal to vertical orientation and back. It is especially ideal for use with shorter macro, wide-angle, and tilt-shift lenses.

Comments about Kirk BL-D700 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D700 Camera Body:
I do like that Kirk designs an extra screw-port into the base as the bracket itself uses the one in the camera. Like that kind of thoughtful engineering. Beautiful tooling quality.

Comments about Kirk BL-D700 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D700 Camera Body:
Landscape photographer. The L bracket stays on the camera and I use it when shooting a lens without a ring. It does not interfere with the nikon access flaps. It is perfectly machined and fits tightly to the the ball mount.

Comments about Kirk BL-D700 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D700 Camera Body:
No more flopping the top of my ball head to the side and restricting its use.
I bought it over the basic plate to support doing panorama work vertically - now it is easy to rotate around the entrance pupil in portrait orientation.
Nice and solid and I can still hand hold it comfortably.
You have to watch out for the fact that the mount point when in portrait is at a different place than when mounted in landscape. Remember to adjust our rail so the entrance pupil is still over the centre of rotation.

Comments about Kirk BL-D700 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D700 Camera Body:
Very well constructed, very sturdy and beautifully finished. I use this bracket for architectural photography with a D700 and the heavy Nikkor 24mm PC-E lens. Used with the KIRK 2" standard clamp, this bracket allows me to change quickly between landscape and portrait mode without heaving to readjust the levelling of the system.

I just use this only to strap D700 now. Very convenient. I learned it from a Japanese dentist in his home page.

Comments about Kirk BL-D700 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D700 Camera Body:
I use the L-bracket with my blackrapid R-strap attached at the bottom. The wide foot area allows me to keep the strap attached when I want a quick tripod shot, and the L shape gives me an option for portrait mode shots while keeping the strap attached at the bottom. This bracket has made quick shots a reality. I can alternate from hand held shooting with my strap attached to solidly mounted tripod shooting very quickly.
The only drawback is probably the access to the video outputs, which takes a bit more time to get my fingernail in there to open the rubber seal. At first, the bracket wouldnt allow the rubber to seal closed and it would pop open, but I adjusted the bolt and now it seals perfectly.

This works great. Easy to attach and and very sturdy. I would have given it a 5 star but i thought it was a little on the pricey side.

Comments about Kirk BL-D700 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D700 Camera Body:
This bracket works just fine for me. It is super strong, the only real drawback is that the side and bottom plates are slightly different sizes for some reason. This isn't really an issue if you use a screw-type mount, but can be a pain if you have a lever type...

If you use a tripod and want to switch quickly between landscape and portrait orientation this is the tool for you.
Kirk makes high quality gear that is sturdy and functional. I was using a similar L bracket on my D300 and got this one when I moved to a D700.
I use this on a Gitzo GT2340L Tripod with a Kirk BH-1 Ball head equipped with an Arca Swiss type quick release plate.
I would definitely recommend this product to a friend.

Comments about Kirk BL-D700 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D700 Camera Body:
I was not one to use my tripod very much, until I purchased the L-Bracket by Kirk for my Nikon D700. It is totally awesome. If you use a tripod and do not have an L-Bracket for your camera you do not know what you are missing with a quick release plate I change my camera from horizontal to vertical in a flash.

If you own a tripod, you need one of these, it makes the change from horizontal to verticle composition a snap.

Comments about Kirk BL-D700 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D700 Camera Body:
Product works and performs as advertised. Fits camera nicely, finishing is smooth - this is important to prevent scratching other equipment.
Data ports on camera (HDMI, video, USB and DC power)are accessible trough opening on vertical (portrait) portion of the bracket. Product is attached to camera with a single hex stainless steel screw (tool supplied).
My only complain is packaging which is done by vacuumed foil on cardboard paper. I almost scratched the bracket with a knife while unpacking - it is that difficult!

I have been using Manfrotto quick release plates with little success. They just don't hold solid. If you want a plate that really works....this is it! Rock solid results!

Horizontal to vertical within seconds. Access to all side connections of the camera. Cylindrical panoramas very easy in 90x360 degrees when used in vertical position and along with FR-1 focus rail. Excellent tool.

Comments about Kirk BL-D700 Compact L-Bracket for Nikon D700 Camera Body:
Normally, you have to flop the tripod head to use a camera in portrait. The L bracket lets you mount the camera in portrait mode and keeps the center of gravity centered over the center of the tripod making the camera more stable = more consistent better shots. We also use it with the tilt-shift lens for panos. By shifting the lens and moving the L bracket the same amount we keep the lens in the same place and move the back.
