The Canon PowerShot SX110 IS Digital Camera (Black) features an incredible 10x optical zoom capability with optical image stabilization and a superb 9.0 megapixel resolution in a compact point-and-shoot camera body that has a modern-looking and elegant form. The camera's advanced DIGIC III Image Processor assures that your images will always look incredible, regardless of the particular shooting conditions. In addition, Advanced Face Detection Technology automatically sets focus, exposure, flash and white balance for beautiful portraits and group shots.
The camera's 10x zoom lens provides a focal length range 36-360mm in 35mm terms, providing the user with the ability to capture a broad range of subjects from landscape and sunset images to birding photos, to action sports - shooting all the way from the stands. Plus, the optical image stabilization system helps reduce camera shake, and High ISO Auto which takes into account the subject's movement, further helps to provide crisp and clear images regardless of how far the zoom extends.
Surprisingly, such a capable camera is also easy to use. It features an Easy Mode, which limits camera functions to the basics for simplified operation, creating ease-of-use for even the most entry-level camera owner. Additionally, the camera is equipped with PictBridge and Canon Direct Print functions, enabling consumers to print photos anywhere. Furthermore, the camera's 3-inch LCD screen and easy-to-use control dial make capturing and viewing images seamless, and all of this is powered by two AA batteries, which are available anywhere so a shot is never missed due to a depleted battery.

What a great little camera!
I was looking for an everyday point and shoot with advanced functions that I could carry with me every day as a back up to my Canon SLR. I had been in the market for a while for a Canon (same menu functions, same software) without breaking the bank BUT with having all the creative freedom that an SLR offers me. THIS is the camera.
With a built in Image Stabilizer, steady shooting is made easy, even at the impressive 10x zoom range. The LCD is clear and bright, the menu function is extensive but easily accessible (especially for existing Canon digital SLR users), the range of control is incredible for a point and shoot with a full manual mode.
The only downsides were the noticeable increase in noise, even at ISO as low as 200. This is in comparison to my 10 megapixel SLR. However, at the lowest ISO, I was impressed by how clear the pictures are. The zoom can be a little slow and clunky when you are looking to frame the picture perfectly and quickly. If you simply have to shoot RAW then this camera will not suffice. The downside therefore is the extent of editing you may have to do but if you really need to edit THAT much then you need to sharpen your photography taking skills up front!!
Overall, a lot of camera for your money. I take it with me everywhere and I feel assured that I need never miss a photo opportunity again!

Bought this camera 2 years ago. It does take great pictures but if you're in the habit of carrying it around with you take a supply of batteries along with it.
You can't let it set idle for more than a week. The batteries will run down just sitting in the camera. Many a time I've grabbed the camera for an impromptu shot only to find the batteries dead. And....as a consequence by the time you reload fresh batteries you've missed the shot.
One other down side...No view finder. All you have is the digital display which works fine indoors or outside on cloudy days. The least bit of sunlight can make it near impossible to see the image. So if your interests include outdoor activities this is definitely not the camera for you.

I took the camera to an Elderhostel on digital cameras where participants were encouraged to bring SLR's, filters, etc. It performed very well until the bright sunshine made me wish for a viewfinder. Fortunately I had taken an old Canon PowerShot that had one, so I used that, especially for vertical shots. I took closeups with remarkable sharpness, as well as telephoto shots equally sharp. But of course, when it came to atmospheric skies, I couldn't compete with the neutral density filters, etc.

I needed an affordable camera that was easy to carry. I was scheduled for a horse pack trip here in Western Wyoming. The date kept changing, I thought I would be able to find this camera in the region before the trip, I was wrong. Why this camera? My nephew visited me at New Years, He brought this camera with him for photographing his ski visit. The zoom on this camera is amazing. Watching the sun come up on the Rockies to the north, several miles away gave us a front row seat with the zoom.. The deer and moose, which are here all winter, are brought to within touching distance with the zoom. Yes I like the zoom! the LCD screen is a great size. Over an 3 day weekend I used 6 batteries, with about 200 pictures, not great

I bought this camera to replace a point & shoot that my nephew broke. I liked the fact that is has lots of feature, it is a high-end point & shoot. The picture quality, however, I found is not quite as good as my previous SD550 camera 7.1 MP camera. The more megapixels they cram into these small sensors the worse the pictures, but it is still better than other competitors. I also like the fact that it uses standard AA batteries, so I don't have to worry about running out, I just go buy new ones.
If you are looking for a fun, feature-packed camera, you can't go wrong with this one!

Great pictures and video!! I have been using it in a weight room that is in the bottom an arena so the lighting isnt the best. But I just put it on auto flash....great result. My sister in law was the one that told me about this camera. She has the same camera and she is a professional photographer.
The only thing is that I need to read the manual so I will know exactly how to utilize all of its fectures. Also I wish it was a litte smaller.

As a 62 year old Retired Physicist,Avionics Tech., and long time Analog Pentax K-1000 toter, I rate this a "5" because, after trying several "point and shoots," this has proven a great "all around" camera, in it's class. I have noted many personal reviews rate camera's far outside their intended class type. This camera will take "publishable" photo's, if you "know your stuff." I like the larger size (as I am 6'2" with large hands) and see no advantage in camera's whose buttons have to be pressed with pencil erasers. The high capacity "AA" rechargables available are a 'plus' too, in my opinion. Canon lens have been on par with German lenses for decades. Great pictures are for the taking with this Jewel.

I needed a camera that could take shots of my kids' sports, and this is working for me. It was within my budget (a big consideration), but it has enough zoom to get what I want, and there has not been much blur.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SX110 IS Digital Camera (Black):
The Canon SX110 IS features a lot in a compact package for a small price. For about $50 more than a regular point-and-shoot, you get a powerful zoom and manual controls. The camera is a jack-of-all-trades, in that it caters to a huge variety of consumers. The automatic and easy settings are almost foolproof, except for the fact you have to pop up the flash by hand if you need it. The manual settings are extensive, and those used to SLRs will be pleasantly surprised by what you can do.The camera's greatest asset is the long lens in combination with image stabilization. I have gotten good results using full zoom (10X) and even full digital zoom (40X) handheld (!!!) in photographing wildlife. This would have been wholly unimaginable a few years back, and not having the zoom range was always a major shortcoming of most pocket cameras. I have even used the camera as an improvised set of binoculars to identify distant birds. The camera is a little too large for most pockets, though, and the flash is a little underpowered. Low-light performance is not great but certainly not terrible for the class. Battery life is short with alkalines, but quite good with rechargables. You'll also need a memory card to replace the pathetic 32MB one the camera comes with. The bottom line: More versatile than a pocket camera, and surprisingly close to the power of a SRL. A great deal for the money.

Great pictures! Love taking shots indoors without having to use the flash. Macro shots have been great, color great. LCD and controls are great! Best of all the pictures are clear, crisp, bright, and the telephoto lens works great. Very happy with this "baby" D-SLR !

Comments about Canon PowerShot SX110 IS Digital Camera (Black):
After a couple weeks of shooting, I'm liking the SX110 more and more. Have a Nikon D90 for "real" photos, but wanted something to toss in the pack or into my biking jersey for those mountain hikes or bike rides. The SX110 fits the bill nicely . . . good telephoto and great macro abilities in a compact package.
Handheld telephoto shots tend to be soft, but put the camera on a monopod or hiking stick and they are noticeably sharper. And when camera is on a monopod or tripod, the digital zoom results are actually pretty good in the 1-2x range. Not happy with the attempts at 3-4x range.
Shots tend to be oversaturated in the blues and greens, and auto settings tend to overexpose in mixed lighting conditions (such as open areas next to trees). I've started to reduce exposure under sunny conditions to compensate. In cloudy conditions the camera is a champ for wildflowers and butterflies.
With the large viewscreen, it tends to drain the AA batteries so pick up rechargables, and carry plenty of spares. Probably getting about 250-300 photos per set of regular AA.
Ready to shoot quickly, and only minor lag between shots as it stores in full size, super quality mode. Also shuts down quickly -- nice for those quick stops on bike rides.
Highly recommend those looking for longer telephoto in a compact package. It doesn't replace my SLR, but for those times I don't want to lug around gear it is perfect.

Camera for my wife. This is the second camera for my wife. We had an A70 and loved that one. This camera is a huge leap from what she had. It just takes better pictures all around. Great video as well. She uses it more for pictures of our little girl. Also when we travel she uses this small one for her own personal travel images.

Resisted going digital because I've got so much into 35mm equipment. Was on a tight budget for this and did a lot of research. This camera works superbly for my wife to "point&shoot"the grandkids in auto, and equally well for me to "tweak" for things like shady wildlife pics.
The first day within 10 minutes of initially turning it on,I had a much, much better hummingbird picture than I'd ever managed with my 35mmSLR K-1000 w/70 to 210Zoom and it was easy to do!
The only negatives are what I expected from researching beforehand. It would be nice to have a wider range for landscape type pics, and it eats batteries right up!! Plan on needing rechargeable batteries, you will!! Neither negative was unexpected or a problem for me,I realized very quickly that I should've gone with a digital camera long ago,This is my first Canon and first digital cam but I love this camera.
