I'm an ordinary camera user who loves to take pictures of wildlife, outdoor scenery, and of family etc. While I might not know how to manipulate settings for the perfect shot, this camera does the work for me. It has an easy setting that is fool proof! My wife loves this feature. When I'm hunting and want to take a picture of an animal that I don't want to spook by a flash, I can turn the flash off easily and the image stabilizer allows the picture to be taken without the blur. Also this camera has a digital zoom all the way up to 16X. And it is great. I didn't know this until I was playing with it. Pleasant surprise! The price was great. The pictures are fantastic and I love the software that comes with it.The only thing not so great is the batteries. But I knew this when I bought it. It uses up AA batteries fairly fast but not any faster than any other camera I have seen. Buy some rechargeable batteries and keep them handy and you will have no problems. I am very pleased with this camera. If I lost it tomorrow I would be on B&H Photo in an instant buying another one just like it.

This works very well for outdoor and strong light. Over all this is a good camera for its price range.
The life of battery is so short. Do not handle very well the low light condition. Shows a lot of noise in low light picture. I don't think this is a true 10 Meg Pix, it's just like the 6.2 meg pix.

Comments about Canon PowerShot A1000 IS Digital Camera (Grey):
We bought this as a family camera to replace an old digital one. I like the sturdy size. Not big but not so small and flat that my children could take it and easily lose it. The clarity of the pictures are great. It is easy to use but has plenty of features for those who want to have more control. So far, we can't say anything bad about it. I am curious to see how long the batteries will last, especially with children playing with it.

This was purchased for my wife. She has used Canon P&S for years. She really likes this one. Straight out of the box ready to shoot. Images rival my Nikon DSLR. What more can I say.

I purchased this camera for my Grandaughter, so far it has worked very well for her. This unit was selected because it was well rated, HAS AN OPTICAL VIEWFINDER, and is reasonably priced.

Easy to use - Awesome Picture Quality - Long Battery Live - Strong Construction (dropped it during security check at the Airport - Camera said "So what"!.....:-).
The only minor "issue" is, that, compared to other "Canon" cameras, this on is a little bulky, so you need a bigger camera pouch, then usual.
The price for this nice camera is unbeatable and I highly recommend a purchase.

I use this as an all purpose camera and especially for adventure travel (hiking, rock climbing, etc.). It is the perfect size and very easy to use. It takes great pictures. I don't like that it doesn't have some features like earlier models have.

This is my Grandsons first camera. I have owned Nikon cameras since the 70's, but I checked out this for my grandson. He is only 9, and I wasn't sure how he would react to getting a real camera. He was expecting a lego set. He was impatient with his Dad putting in the batteries (AA so you can get them anywhere). Once he put his hands on it he didn't stop taking pictures. It was a real hit with him. I didn't get my camera until I was almost 20. This past week I went to the aquarium and there were bus loads of kids in their early teens getting off the bus. Most had a camera and were taking pictures all over the place. So, 9 or 10 seems to be the right age for that first camera.

Great, easy-to-use point-and-shoot camera, with superb picture quality. I just wish it had more manual settings like aperture and shutter priority that I had on my previous 6 mega pixel model. Still a great camera for the vacationer, novice photographer, and anyone who wants idiot-proof snapshots. Can hold around 500 pictures (at highest quality) with an optional 2GB memory card that cost about[$] and uses easy-to-find AA batteries.

I got this camera primarily to keep with me when I don't have my DSLR or for family events, vacations, etc., when a bulky DSLR would get in the way. As a Canon person, I'm already familiar with the presets, but I like how much manual shooting you can do with this camera. Good size and sturdy construction. Good picture quality. In fact, I enlarged one of the photos to 16"x20" for an art show I'm in.

I carry this camera in my pocket for those unexpected shots. In my PI work my DSLR is my main camera, but you are always caught by supprise from time to time and this camera saves the day. It is also easy to conceal for undercover shots.

Not flashy but this camera consistently takes good photos, has long battery life (and convenience of using only two AA batteries) and takes bumps and bruises well (I use it for outdoor work in all kinds of conditions).
