It lights up for ease of viewing and provides "hands-free" examination of objects. The 2x lens yields a contrasty and clear image - sharp and bright. The LED illumination is great for low-light scenarios such as libraries and archives.

I use this magnifier to add me in making detailed drawings. The magnifier acrylic is a good size and has a nice flexible arm. However I am disappointed with the clamp which is not stable, doesn't hold properly and seems to be made of a cheap plastic that will not last long. I wil be buying a better quality magnifier soon.
