Panasonic AY-HDVM63AMQ Mini HDV/DV/DVCAM Compatible Advanced Master Cassette
The AY-HDVM63AMQ Mini HDV/DV/DVCAM Compatible Advanced Master Cassette from Panasonic is a Mini HDV tape that has 63 minutes of recording time in SP mode. The tape is built to withstand the repeated rewinding, fast forwarding and playback of professional editing. It has a +1.2dB higher output level provided by using S-AME (Super Advanced Metal Evaporation) technology.
The tape has 30% fewer dropouts than the competition. The dry-type lubricant and thick DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) film development boosts durability for high speed shuttling, still-frame and professional editing. A surface treatment process further reduces the chance of a head clog, while keeping output high and bit error rate low. The tape is supplied in a rugged hard plastic case with side locks to prevent accidental opening. Special grooves allow safe stacking, and all surfaces have a non-slip ribbed pattern.

I was a little hesitant to purchase this product from B&H, fearing it was not a mini-DV cassette. I mean, let's face it, this case looks a little big for it to be a mini-DV tape. I reluctantly bought it, and when I received it I found that I was right, it WAS a large case. As a matter of fact, I would say it is probably the same size as a DVCPro tape case. Inside though was a mini-DV tape (which made me very relieved). So I only write this "review" to inform you all that even though the case looks big (and it is), there is STILL a mini-DV tape inside of it. I dinged it a star, only because I can't fit it into my mini-DV rack (the MDV-50), and they're such an obscure size from all the other mini-DV cases that I have (i like to stay organized)

I've been using these with my FX-1000 and have been experiencing a few dropouts. I've probably have had 1-2 / tape. Other than that everything else is fine.

I have been using these tapes for about 4 years now, never have had a problem excellent quality, no drop outs, if you want to save a dollar per tape they you can purchase them is a different case, I prefer the more professional one since I give all the master tapes to my clients.

I've been shooting Mini Dv for ten years now and I love this sturdy case that holds the panasonic AY-HDVM63AMQ 63 minute high quality mini DV tape.
I bought this product because I have to send the masters to the client and I need them to be secure and protected. Also i need a durable tape that can standup to the shooting and capturing process that's involved with editing with this media. Very happy with this product.

In a ever growing world of hard drive based recording, you still need some place to story your footage or final projects, and for me that is HDV tape. Panasonic has created an amazing product in it's Advanced Master Quality video cassette that provides great quality and performance with no drop outs or tape glitches. With this tape, you get pure quality pictures and audio with degrading of the image over time. I use this product recording HDV with a Canon HV40, which has a Letus lenses adapter and 35mm Canon lenses attached, and I love the results. I have also recorded onto this video tape in HDV using the Canon XH-G1, which is a great camera when use manual or automatic controls. Come to think of it, I also used this tape years ago with the Panasonic DVC-100, so I have using this tape for quite a while. I recommend using this tape for any occasion or event, and very strongly believe that you need to keep tape around for quite a while because you need to achieve raw footage somewhere, so why not on a small tape. I recommend this product for use with HDV, but also DV if anyone is still using it.
