GoPro's Helmet HERO Wide Video Camera is a 5Mp wearable camera that mounts directly to your helmet, allowing you to capture all the action when you're cycling, climbing, skating, driving and then some. If your sport of choice calls for a helmet then the Helmet HERO Wide camera might be for you. However, this camera doesn't just mount on helmets. Mount the camera to your board, bike or car, just to name a few places. The camera features a 170° lens for an ultra wide view and footage that will blow you and your friends away.
The included quick release housing keeps the camera waterproof up to 100', as well as shockproof. And, a variety of other mounting options allows you to keep a set-up ready on spare helmets and other equipment. Capture up to 56 minutes of 512 x 384 30fps video to a 2GB SD card (not included), which expands the internal 16MB memory, and up to 1945 still photos, using the "Photo Every 2 Seconds" mode. A "Photo Every 5 Seconds" mode and the 3x sequence still photo burst are other still recording options. The HERO Wide not only captures images but audio as well, which features adjustable sound recording.

Comments about GoPro Helmet HERO Wide Video Camera:
Bought this camera to take white water rafting and zip lining. The waterproof housing muted the audio. Easy to use, good video quality, but without the audio to go along with the action made this camera a disappointment. Also, bought the recomended batteries but the battery life lasted only an hour, with less then 20 min of video.

Comments about GoPro Helmet HERO Wide Video Camera:
No, it's not the most perfect picture in the world, but it is great for what I got it for, so I'm giving it five stars because it does what I want it to very well. To be honest, I got it for two reasons:
1) I wanted to film the idiotic things that drivers do when driving to and from work, and
2) I wanted to film some of my motorcycle rides.
For the first, I got the Hero Motorsports expansion kit (see separate review), so I could use the suction cup to mount it to my windshield. For the second, I use the headstrap.
This particular camera has a very wide angle, almost fisheye, lens, so distances are deceptively long and there's quite a bit of distortion, but you get a nice, wide field of view. I believe they make a unit with a more normal lens,if you'd prefer that.
The picture quality is not all that great because the resolution is somewhat coarse, but it's good enough to accurately depict what the camera sees. And it records sound, as well.
All the mounts require the camera to be mounted in its weatherproof acrylic case, but the sound still gets through (though attenuated) and the box also serves to protect the camera from abuse.
My only complaint is that the memory is limited to a single 2 GB SDHC card, so the best you can do is about an hour's worth of recording - but that's enough to cover my trip to work and back each day, so it's OK for me.

I already own the older version and was buying this for the wide-angle. It seems to shoot better quality and love the wide-angle view. I have used it for mountain biking and skiing.

Comments about GoPro Helmet HERO Wide Video Camera:
I was looking into purchasing a small camcorder of sorts that I could use this upcoming winter to shoot some videos of my friends and I snowboarding. I mentioned this to a friend of mine as we were on a biking trip in Colorado a few months back and he lent me his GoPro to try out for a day. He had bought it at the beginning of spring to do similiar things with it.So we mounted it to my helmet and it took me a while to acutally get it mounted and then ready to record. I figured that it was just because I was unfamiliar with it and I got the hang of it after a few times, but it still seemed like a complicated process for a sports/action camera. I was looking for something with a few switches or buttons to press and then I'd be off. While riding with it, the mount didn't seem to sturdy either. It felt like the camera would fall off and possibly take my helmet with it if I went off a jump or hit a dip of some significance, which obviously affected my riding. Which leads me to my last criticism that the camera is a little bit bulky. It's not very condusive to mounting on a helmet. I didn't feel comfortable with it on my helmet and defninitely knew that it was there.A positive was the video quality and the wide angle that the camera shoots for you. It was nice to get a very clear picture of my rides and a bonus was, that because of the side angle shot, that the trail in front of me was not the only thing I saw. You were definitely able to see the surrounding terrain which is something you don't get from many cameras out there. After all of that, and after the trip was over I did some more research on the cameras out there and found what I was looking for in a VholdR camera. I bought one at their website ([...]) a month and a half ago. The camera is small, easy to use and gets quality footage. Hope this was helpful!!
