Comments about Crucial Technology 8GB (2x4GB) SO-DIMM Memory Upgrade Kit for Notebook:
This is great memory. Running 8 GB in my Lenovo Thinkpad X61 is wonderful. I run Windows Server 2008 x64 configured for workstation use, but in my other Lenovo notebook I run Vista x64. I ordered one kit to be sure it would work and now I am ordering another kit for my other notebook (a Lenovo T61P). It takes less than five minutes to install - really easy.Lenovo's documentation says their X61 and T61P notebooks max out at 4GB, but that's only because that was the max you could get when they wrote that documentation. The memory controller chip Lenovo uses in these notebook computers can handle 4GB sticks. Put in two as with this kit and you get 8 reliable, fantastic GB to use. You do, of course, have to be running a 64-bit edition of Windows to take advantage of this memory. 32-bit Windows editions can't use more than about 2GB, but 64-bit Windows can rock and roll with lots more. If you do, you'll find Windows runs faster, applications load more quickly and applications using lots of memory (I run GIS software and other demanding software) will run far faster. I suspect battery life will be better because the machine won't be hitting disk as often. The only downside to this memory is that it is over [$] for the kit. Ouch. Well... not happy about that but sometimes you just have to spend what you have to spend to get what you want.
