I spent a couple of years messing around with a relatively inexpensive 'home/small office' color laser (HP 2605DN)and the the very expensive cost per page toner. Print quality when new was decent, but maintaining it required a rather complicated dis-assembly of the printer to clean the internal red mirror assembly (a known problem) every few months. OEM toner was very expensive and low capacity, and aftermarket toners were often of poor quality. Additional negatives to the high page cost were noise and slow speed - all common for printers in this category.
I became resigned to purchasing an expensive high volume office quality printer, and paying the high initial purchase price to get A) fast throughput, B) excellent print quality, and C) low cost per page consumables.
When I found this Konica-Minolta 5670EN model on sale at B&H, I was impressed by the very good specs, reviews, and economical (6K page standard, 12K page high-yield) toners. I was very surprised at the initial purchase price, which was basically on par with the low cost, low speed, home color lasers like the HP I was replacing. The 5670EN ships with 6K page toners - that many pages in the HP OEM cartridges alone would have cost me more than three times the purchase price of this entire printer! Replacement high-yield toners for the 5670EN are priced well - at 12K per cartridge the price per page is about as low as you'll find on any machine. I added the duplex option that raised the initial printer purchase price somewhat, but is a feature I've come to appreciate.
I've had the printer installed for a few days now, and am more than pleased - print quality is exceptional (sharp, with high contrast vibrant colors), and it's very fast. Unpacking and putting it together (including installing the duplexer) took about 45 minutes. I entered an initial static IP address for my network on the printer menu panel, and had no problems with connections from my Windows and Apple computers. I used the supplied (CD)drivers for both Windows7 32 bit and 64 bit PCs, and they worked fine without any updates. The duplex option is fast and works well, the 500 sheet paper tray is great, and the LCD user panel is bright and easy to use. The printer is not especially quiet, but not overly noisy either. It is big, and heavy - so you need a space to park it.
I've only had it in operation for a few days, but couldn't be happier so far. Long term durability and actual toner consumption remain to be seen, but we're off to a good start ... :)

I started loving Magicolor printer with my first Magicolor 2200. The color intensity of the Magicolor 2200 stood out among all color lasrer printers. I have this printer for 6 months now, I love the quality of its color output, but the printer quality and design gave a lot of headaches. I am glad that I have bought the service plan. It needs repair and service too frequently. But overall, I feel no other choice, becasue the Magicolor produces real intense, vivid photo quality prints on 28-pound regular paper. My other Brother HL-4070 CDW Color Laser priner produces faded printout, night and day difference. So I am stuck using this one for brilliant printout for colored brochures.
I have the Konica-Minolta technician in my office MANY times to repair and service. I have never have other brand office printer that requires so much on-site serivce!! You really cannot own this printer without buying the extended warranty service. I have already changed fuser, transfer roller, the duplex unit in 6 months.
I have to say that the 3-year extended service is really worth it to own this printer. Without it, it will be too expensive and I will have thrown it out.
The 5670EN is very noisy, also takes a long time to boot to print. Once it boots up, it prints very fast, and brillant colors on even 20 lb regular paper.
Overall, there is no other printer that prints better photographic quality than the Magicolor with 9600dpi resolution. I have the Magicolor 4965 Multifunction printer for two years and have intensive service done. I like the output so much that I bought this Magicolor 5670EN. It is based on similar design. I have similar problems with both machines. It seems to be the beast of the basic design. Well, until I find another 9600dpi color laser priner, these Magicolor printers are what I am tolerating for now. I wish they produce a machine with less service frequency!
Update on 12-26-2001
I made a stupid mistake or ordering another unit of the same machine. thinking that I can save the inventory space of sharing teh same bulky toner cartridges and imaging units. What a mistake I have made!! The unit came dead on arrival. The black toner cartridge leaked, the magenta toner and imaging unit would not lock into proper place. I could not close the door and could not get it to work. I used the toner and imaging unit from my other unit. and they got stuk together, and I cannot remove them. I still cannot cloe the door.
Even worse, the Konica Minolta tech service phone line asks for a lot of information before it will route the phone call to the proper person. It will not recognize the simple serial number. And it will not activate the operator to come to pick up the phone. I have to spend 10 minutes and punching all kinds of number to somehow get the phone answering voice to get to a technician. I am furious and regret that I have bought three of the Magicopor printers. Everyone has problems. Do not buy this one or Magicolor 4695. They are too much to take care.

This printer is much faster then the 5440DL that it replaced. Setup was easy, the color is perfect. The only down side is it is louder than the 5440DL, but that's most likely due to the speed at which it prints.

Comments about Konica Minolta magicolor 5670EN High Performance Laser Printer:
Have had this printer for approx 2 yrs, using in a small business capacity, mostly BW but occasionally large volume 2-sided color handouts. Quick speed & great looking finished product are the results everytime. Toner isn't cheap but quality is worth it. Don't bother with the std capacity, get high capacity toner cartridges, well worth the $$ difference.
The only CON - I'm at approx 25% life remaining on the imaging units & they are roughly $700 to replace for all four. Can buy a new printer much cheaper than the replacement units. A shame to junk an entire printer but...

This printer has amazing quality & color - better then the $3000 color laser I had at work. I did have some trouble with paper jamming. I figured out I installed the multipurpose tray incorrectly and once that was fixed everything works great!

1. Quality/Resolution - Very good color and black and white
2. Speed - Color speed is excellent and black and white is very good

4. Set-up - easy
Excellent price for this color printer. I have read where this printer is prone to paper jams, but that has not been my experience.
