The Slingbox PRO-HD Internet TV Broadcaster from Sling Media allows you to watch live television streamed from your home cable or satellite connection via the Internet.

The Slingbox Pro-HD really is a fantastic device that will bring a big smile to your face... eventually!If you would like the potential of watching your cable service or other devices via the internet while travelling or on holidays, this is THE device for you.With a plethora of device connections, it gives the user lots of choices and doesn't disappoint with it's ability to sling High Definition content around the house and beyond (as long as your have a quick Upload speed to the internet).My situation in Australia with the current offering of ADSL residential speeds, means I cannot obtain faster upload speeds than 1MB/s.So the Slingbox adjusts accordingly and outputs a lower quality/resolution stream across the net to be able to cope with the limited bandwidth.The quality of the stream the Pro-HD outputs around my house is very very impressive, I could not be happier and can easily control the device(s) being streamed via an on-screen remote.I've also installed the iPhone SlingPlayer software which is highly recommended in getting content onto your portable device, it's an extra option that is fairly priced in what it offers.[...]!My overall rating of the Slingbox Pro-HD is a 4/5 and would have been given a perfect 5 Stars if not for the challenge it presented on initial set up.To give an idea, I'm a 25 year PC user and have a solid understanding of networks and maintaining a tight network at home. However I almost found myself losing sleep after receiving my Pro-HD in my attempt to get it working on my network correctly.The Pro-HD did not like being given a Static-IP address and forced me into setting up DHCP on my router to allow it to setup a dynamic IP address.Once I set this up, things got easier, however this is the only device to have ever been so fussy.This is a minor issue now and the only bad experience to report so far, otherwise this device is solid and minus this issue, I have to say it comes Highly Recommended for anyone looking to achieve streaming of media inside or outside the home network.

The unit works as advertised but a couple things prevent it from being perfect. First, when you control your DVD using the built-in remote, you might lose a couple seconds of your stream. That's annoying if you just press something like the info button.
There are several firmware and software updates that are required before you can use it on other machines. For example, if you run it on one machine and it says to update the firmware, it seems to install fine. Then when you try to run the program, it will not work unless you upgrade the software. Finally when you think it's working perfectly, you try accessing it through another computer and it makes you upgrade the software again. So the firmware upgrades are not downward compatible with the software versions.
I don't like the fact I have to provide it my email address every single time I upgrade the software and/or install it on another computer.

I got this product in anticipation of a move abroad at a friend's recommendation. So far, I like it and it does what it says. The controls are not as user friendly as I would like, and not the easiest to figure out. Otherwise, I love it!

I currently have the slingbox hooked up to one of my cable boxes located in a bedroom that is not used very often. So far I can watch TV using our desktop computer our laptop computer and an I-pad. The picture quality is outstanding. The sling box software tells me the video is being processed at a rate of 8,200kbps.
I can also watch TV from our boat which we have a wifi connection. I was pleasantly surprised over how good the picture quality was considering that my computer at home has a max upload speed of 2Mbps.
At the boat the slingbox software indicated a transfer rate of 2,040kps. This rate was adequate enough for me to receive an uninterrupted high quality picture.

The unit performs as advertised, with an easy interface online. However, if someone is at home while someone else is using the product, guess what? The person at home is no longer in control of the entertainment system they have. TOTAL control is given up when you access this product/service.
Not so good...
And having to pay an extra $29 for mobile access is I guess to be expected but a bummer.

needed a way to stream high def TV/DVR to other areas of my home... this product has met that need... and then some
Pros:
Love the ability to watch my TV/DVR from anywhere in the house. Even the remote looks identical to the real one and works the same
Its easy to setup... and they even provide the cables
Didn't need to teach my wife how it works because the system is very intuitive.
Discovered that I can even watch my own recorded shows from different locations (after some firewall settings) such as my Mom's house ( she lives about 40 minutes from my location )
Cons:
none that I can tell so far... and let me tell you I am using this product daily

I'm IT literate... but my wife is not... this product allowed me to show my wife and friends that you can stream TV/DVR to any where and anyone can do it.

This is a very good product that I wish I bought at least a year ago. I use this to watch my Satellite HD DVR via laptop PC or HTC EVO when I'm on the road
Hopefully the newer versions will support 1080P via HDMI to make it fully future ready.

Slingbox does what it says it does. It allows you to watch your TV from anywhere. The picture quality is very good (as long as your upload speed is up to par) and is extremely easy to setup. With the multiple inputs you can setup pretty much anything (DVD's etc).

The downsides to the device aren't too many but still there.
*No Hdmi
*Mobile software is $30 per device.
*No built in DVR (you can pause the current stream though)
*Expensive. For that price they should throw in at least one mobile device license or DVR

No real complaints other than the lack of HDMI ports and only one of each of the following inputs: component \ composite - s video \ Coax. The lack of 1080P creates problems with the throughput of your video source to your TV. Slight disappointment there..
