The Canon EOS 5D Mark II improves upon the EOS 5D by increasing the resolution by about 40% to 21.1 Megapixels and adds a Live View feature that allows users to preview shots on the cameras High resolution 3.0" LCD display. It even incorporates the ability to record full motion HD Video with sound, so you can capture the action as well as superb images.
The camera's 21.1Mp, Full frame 35mm-format (24x36mm) CMOS sensor captures image files with incredible image quality and color accuracy, and can capture JPEG, RAW and RAW+JPEG files. The camera also incorporates Canon's acclaimed DIGIC 4 imaging processor that works in concert with a high-speed DDR-SDRAM buffer to ensure quick performance and fast image processing times. Performance enhancements enabled by the DIGIC 4 processor include an incredibly fast full-resolution frame rate of up to 3.9 fps, improved battery life, noticeably improved image quality at all ISO sensitivities, fast start-up and reaction times, and improved noise suppression at ISO sensitivities ranging from ISO 100 to ISO 6400, plus the cameras sensitivity is further expandable to a range of ISO 50 to ISO 25600.
The Canon EOS 5D Mark II incorporates a high-fidelity (920,000 dot) 3" LCD screen and includes a 'Live View' feature that permits the user to frame their shots on the LCD display, and adds framing functions that are not possible with a traditional SLR viewfinder including the ability to zoom in and navigate the preview image to ensure proper focus, and a grid overlay to assist in proper composition. The Live View focusing system also enables focus modes such as Quick mode, Live mode and Face Detection Live mode. Furthermore, the Live View Feature enables HD video recording that can capture true HD-quality (1080p) video at a frame rate of 30 fps with Face Detection and sound.
The magnesium-alloy chassis of the EOS 5D Mark II ensures the durability of the camera so users can take it on safari or to a press junket and be assured that the camera can take it. In addition the camera body incorporates extensive dust and weatherproofing features including seals and gaskets where body panels and/or camera controls meet. To further keep the imaging sensor free from dust, Canon's EOS Integrated Cleaning System uses ultrasonic vibrations to shake dust particles off of the sensor's low-pass filter each time you power up (or manually when needed); this ensures that your images will be spot free and reduces time needed for image retouching.
Other professional quality features found on the Canon EOS 5D Mark II include 14-bit A/D conversion, a bright viewfinder (with 98% image coverage), Auto Light Optimizer, Lens Peripheral Illumination Correction, 9-point AF plus 6-point assist AF, 25 Custom Functions with 71 settings, and 5 metering modes (35-Zone EV, 8% Partial Spot, 3.5% Spot, Center-Weighted, and Pre-Flash E-TTL II). Altogether, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II has been designed to serve the needs and interests of serious enthusiasts as well as professional photographers who are in pursuit of the perfect image.

Coming from a 50D, this is such a nice step up in High ISO performance. With some help from Lightroom 3 the ISO 3200 files are totally usable and even 6400 in a pinch. Certainly, for personal memories, 6400 is totally usable, creating vast options for very lowlight use.
Plus the camera is a bit more rugged....it feels great in the hand.
With the 24-105 I'm finding it very quick to acquire focus, even in low light. I've read some gripes about the autofocus system but they don't exist for me. Perhaps because I'm used to the nine points from the 50D, this performs wonderfully to me. Even the outer points.
I may be wishfully thinking, but I could swear there's a greater tonal range in my images. I'm not a scientific type, so this is by impression and "feel"....not testing here.
All in all, this is money really well spent. The camera is an absolute pleasure to use! I'm looking forward to pairing it with some primes down the road...

Very good image quality, low noise, and light. Very slow comparing to my 1ds ii in focusing and shutter lag. Video is handy but features are lacking. The 9 point focus points just aren't enough for me. That's why I returned it and got the 7d as my back up camera in adding to my 1ds ii which I'm still in love with after so many years. Its body feels plastic also. If you have the patience, I would wait for a mark iii which should have improvement on focus point and video feature, or even speed...

Comments about EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera Kit with Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM AF Lens:
As a newby to photography I am amazed at the quality of the photos even on the auto setting and a bit overwhelmed by the complexity. I have signed up for a photography class at our local community college and I am so excited to learn more. Initially I will be using it to photograph my 4 kiddos and we will see where it takes me from there.

Comments about EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera Kit with Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM AF Lens:
I am a corporate industrial photographer, so I do just about everything with this camera. It is very versatile and Is useful in any professional photography situation. The quality that this full frame camera offers is excellent, and it doesn't lose any quality when shooting video. I love using this camera with high definition video. It's so easy to take footage from the video and put it into editing software. The quality of each frame of the video is exactly the quality of a single shot frame. This camera is easy to use, which seems impossible with everything it is capable of. Live mode function is very practical when clients or art directors are on the shoot with me, because I can preview the shot for them. I also like live mode for when the camera is too low to the ground to look through the view finder. I can run it in those circumstances for surprisingly long durations without the battery dying.

Comments about EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera Kit with Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM AF Lens:
I am a part-time videographer, I shoot action sports (surfing mostly) and I absolutely LOVE this camera. I've had the 7D since November of 2009 (it's especially good out in the elements.) I'm happy to now have the 5d that balances my kit with an even better sensor, perfect for my documentary style interviews, and anything else that's non-action (which 7d is perfect for in 60fps)
Out of the box you can immediately feel the quality of this camera and as soon as you start shooting with any of Canon's L series lenses, you realize what you've been missing. The colors and shallow depth of field this camera achieves are remarkable.
Unfortunately, with great images at such an affordable price comes a few hiccups. The sound is less than acceptable for any type of filming and the camera overheats and can only shoot consecutively for short spurts. With this camera I use the H4n audio along with Rode stereo mic, Rode NTG2, and senheiser Lav mics to solve sound issues. Its a lot of extra bits and pieces to carry in order to achieve usable sound. However, the picture quality is truly worth the extra effort!!!
The camera shoots great in low light, too...

I use the 5D for action sports photos and for work for landscape and photos of machinery.
The assistance, supply and delivery (to Australia) from B&H were all excellent. The price was very competitive also.

Comments about EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera Kit with Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM AF Lens:
This camera is totally amazing and I love working with it--mostly. Having said that, there is one complete weakness that I hope Canon will address in future cameras--the recording mic. The mic captures huge amounts of internal camera operation noise, not to mention the focusing noise. I've tried wind devices that cover the mic, but nothing helps. I plan to buy an external mic to take care of the problem. Battery life is amazing, and every other facet of this machine is amazing--except sound recording management.

Comments about EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera Kit with Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM AF Lens:
OK, now I've got one. I'm in the club and my friends will leave me alone about my micro 4/3 kit. Honestly though, I wanted to be able to shoot for big prints. So no more rentals, no more making crop factor calculations in my head, no more struggling to get a narrow depth of field, and a whole. lot. less. noise.
The lens is so competent and the body controls seem to just find themselves under the correct fingers of my hand.
Cons: It's heavy, It's light on focus zones when compared to newer models like the 7D, It's Live Focus is unnecessarily slow.

Comments about EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera Kit with Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM AF Lens:
I have been a longtime Canon user dating back to my first SLR the Canon FTb. I upgraded from the T2i to experience the full frame sensor, improve on image quality and my desire to revert back to the old 35MM format size. This camera is by far the best Canon I've owned to date! The 24-105 kit lens is a perfect match for my everyday needs. When shooting real estate I've added the 16-35MM 2.8L and find this the best of both worlds. My plan is to add a long telephoto zoom to compliment my other lenses. The 5D Mark ii is more than capabile to handle my photography needs.

Large raw files to play with
Hi ISO capabilities for fast indoor shutter speeds
Sharp sharp zoom
Reliable and weather resistant
Zoom flexibility
Pretty much all you could ask for in the current crop of full 35mm frame cameras in a relatively light package. (I know Leica is lighter, but no zoom and ISO is good up to about 1200 IMO)

Comments about EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera Kit with Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM AF Lens:
I have been involved in photography and videography since High School. I have owned three SLR cameras prior. The 5D Mark II is my first DSLR. When I first powered up this unit and started to navigate through the different settings I was amazed on how well Canon designed this aspect of the camera. After a couple days taking the camera out for use, I found that I was able to spend more time composing the shots rather than tinkering around in some complicated menu system. Furthermore, the function buttons on the body of the camera are also located where they should be. The grip is also a perfect size and shape to get a firm grip on the camera.
I would strongly recommend this camera to others. The low light capabilties and outstanding image quality make this a great DSLR to own whether you are an amateur or a professional photographer.
