The Canon EOS 5D Mark II improves upon the EOS 5D by increasing the resolution by about 40% to 21.1 Megapixels and adds a Live View feature that allows users to preview shots on the cameras High resolution 3.0" LCD display. It even incorporates the ability to record full motion HD Video with sound, so you can capture the action as well as superb images.
The camera's 21.1Mp, Full frame 35mm-format (24x36mm) CMOS sensor captures image files with incredible image quality and color accuracy, and can capture JPEG, RAW and RAW+JPEG files. The camera also incorporates Canon's acclaimed DIGIC 4 imaging processor that works in concert with a high-speed DDR-SDRAM buffer to ensure quick performance and fast image processing times. Performance enhancements enabled by the DIGIC 4 processor include an incredibly fast full-resolution frame rate of up to 3.9 fps, improved battery life, noticeably improved image quality at all ISO sensitivities, fast start-up and reaction times, and improved noise suppression at ISO sensitivities ranging from ISO 100 to ISO 6400, plus the cameras sensitivity is further expandable to a range of ISO 50 to ISO 25600.
The Canon EOS 5D Mark II incorporates a high-fidelity (920,000 dot) 3" LCD screen and includes a 'Live View' feature that permits the user to frame their shots on the LCD display, and adds framing functions that are not possible with a traditional SLR viewfinder including the ability to zoom in and navigate the preview image to ensure proper focus, and a grid overlay to assist in proper composition. The Live View focusing system also enables focus modes such as Quick mode, Live mode and Face Detection Live mode. Furthermore, the Live View Feature enables HD video recording that can capture true HD-quality (1080p) video at a frame rate of 30 fps with Face Detection and sound.
The magnesium-alloy chassis of the EOS 5D Mark II ensures the durability of the camera so users can take it on safari or to a press junket and be assured that the camera can take it. In addition the camera body incorporates extensive dust and weatherproofing features including seals and gaskets where body panels and/or camera controls meet. To further keep the imaging sensor free from dust, Canon's EOS Integrated Cleaning System uses ultrasonic vibrations to shake dust particles off of the sensor's low-pass filter each time you power up (or manually when needed); this ensures that your images will be spot free and reduces time needed for image retouching.
Other professional quality features found on the Canon EOS 5D Mark II include 14-bit A/D conversion, a bright viewfinder (with 98% image coverage), Auto Light Optimizer, Lens Peripheral Illumination Correction, 9-point AF plus 6-point assist AF, 25 Custom Functions with 71 settings, and 5 metering modes (35-Zone EV, 8% Partial Spot, 3.5% Spot, Center-Weighted, and Pre-Flash E-TTL II). Altogether, the Canon EOS 5D Mark II has been designed to serve the needs and interests of serious enthusiasts as well as professional photographers who are in pursuit of the perfect image.

Coming from a 50D, this is such a nice step up in High ISO performance. With some help from Lightroom 3 the ISO 3200 files are totally usable and even 6400 in a pinch. Certainly, for personal memories, 6400 is totally usable, creating vast options for very lowlight use.
Plus the camera is a bit more rugged....it feels great in the hand.
With the 24-105 I'm finding it very quick to acquire focus, even in low light. I've read some gripes about the autofocus system but they don't exist for me. Perhaps because I'm used to the nine points from the 50D, this performs wonderfully to me. Even the outer points.
I may be wishfully thinking, but I could swear there's a greater tonal range in my images. I'm not a scientific type, so this is by impression and "feel"....not testing here.
All in all, this is money really well spent. The camera is an absolute pleasure to use! I'm looking forward to pairing it with some primes down the road...

Very good image quality, low noise, and light. Very slow comparing to my 1ds ii in focusing and shutter lag. Video is handy but features are lacking. The 9 point focus points just aren't enough for me. That's why I returned it and got the 7d as my back up camera in adding to my 1ds ii which I'm still in love with after so many years. Its body feels plastic also. If you have the patience, I would wait for a mark iii which should have improvement on focus point and video feature, or even speed...

I upgraded from the 60D to the 5D mkii a few weeks ago and I have not been sorry about it. The 5D mkii is the best camera I have ever held in my hands. Even at high ISO the noise is not that bad and you will still be able to pull out some great shots. the only downside is that the wheel mode select wheel doesn't lock like it does on the 60D and you cannot select your max ISO in the auto range like with tht 60D and no tilt and swivel LCD screen. but I will put up with them because hands down the image qulaity is far beyond the 60D. Really happy with the purchase and it is well worth the money. Also to save a little money get a CF to SD adapter SD cards are cheaper and the newer sd cards are really fast, and they are easier to carry.

This is by far one of the best cameras out there! I use it for my photography but, I also make films using this camera. It's versatile and works great in low light. Love that it can take raw, jpeg or raw+jpeg. I mostly use raw so I can edit my images. The only bad thing is that it's a little noisy sometimes and the internal mic will pick up that lens noise when in movie mode.

This very complicated and precise photgraphy machine is not for kids!!! I repeat not for kids... with that being said.... Just a little background on me.... I'm a stone, cold, green, rookie @ photography. I recently just stepped up my game from a Canon XT (350D) to this baby!!! (I will suggest a book " David Busch's Canon EOS 5D Mark II Guide to Digital SLR Photography") a great way to introduce yourself to this marvelous camera if you're up and coming, inspiring photographer as myself. As for this camera and with a little practice (again I'm speaking for the novices) you'll take some astounding pics. I unfortunately only have 1 lens (Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens) I enjoy that lens for the price you can't go wrong...besides the one that came with the camera (24-105mm L lens...it's truly quality ) I'm a work in progress and each day I'm learning more and more about this lovely machine!!! Build: A+ Switces, buttons, and etc.: A+ Features: Too many too many to list. Right now as write this @ [$] WHAT A DEAL!!! PEASE DO NOT WAIT!!! I know I will not out grow this full framed gem. I'm betting you'll have years of enjoyment shooting. The only regret I have is now I have to upgrade my lens collection..hey that could be fun :) The Canon 5D Mark II is quality you'll feel every time you touch it!!! I recently added three lenses to my collection 1. The 70-200mm f/4L 2. The 70-200 f/2.8L 3. The 85mm f/1.8 (This should have an L on it too) Happy Shooting!!!

I use this product for fashion, advertising, and editorial photoshoots. I LOVE IT! I'm currently an advertising major with a focus on photography and film - this is the closest I could get to professional quality without spending thousands on a Hassleblad. Perfect for the semi-pro photographer/videographer.

Comments about EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera Kit with Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM AF Lens:
I've owned the original Canon 5d for a few years now and always thought it was the best all around Canon camera. The full frames sensor made me feel like I was shooting with a film camera again. I cannot say enough great things about that camera. I recently purchased the 5d mark II and am once again blown away by the improvements that Canon has made to this newer model. It features 1080 hd video, 40% increase in megapixel, better metering system, live viewfinder, etc. the list goes on and on. One of the greatest things about the new version is its price. I paid over $3000 for my Canon 5d mark I. 3 years later and a ton of improvements I paid under $2300 for a new and better than ever mark II. Canon proves once again that it will remain the #1 choice for most consumers looking to take their photography to the next level and making them confident that their purchase is a very sound investment.

Just got back from Red Rock CO shooting a documentary and used the camera 50% of the time. Great shots.
I like the idea that takes little set up to pull out and start shooting...
LOVE It!

This camera works best for still photography. While it does in fact do beautiful professional quality video. It falls way short when it comes to sound. You can't catch the unexpected unless you travel around with an external sound source at all times. Kind of defeats the design purpose of the camera. Well planned short shots with external sound or stills: Go for it. It is truly a wonderful camera.

Comments about EOS 5D Mark II Digital Camera Kit with Canon 24-105mm f/4L IS USM AF Lens:
This is the second 5D Mark II I have owned (not because the first broke, I just wanted a second one!) Image is far superior to most of the camcorders I have used that are easily $5-8,000. Most of the canon DSLR cameras are great but you just can't beat the 5D Mark II.
The only downside is audio of course - but thats nothing new. This camera was never meant to be used as a video camera so additional mics and a recorder is needed. The built in mic just won't do the job for professional audio. Plus with the 24-105mm IS lens you get a lot of noise when the IS is on. Most of the time I don't even need it on because of the Shape Composite Stabilizer rig I use, or when its on a tripod.
All in all an amazing camera! Even though the body and lens is on the cheaper side - a good package will cost you at least $10,000 when all is said and done.
