I bought this printer for printing photos and I am exceptionally pleased with the quality of its output. Colors are acurate, picture detail is very sharp, print speed is good, and the included software for printing photos is robust and easy to use. The top load paper tray works well for photo paper and plain paper. I have only printed 12 to 15 4" x 6" photos and the printhead alignment patterns thus far, but the printer monitor still shows the ink cartridges as full. I am curious to find out how many photos can be printed with a set of cartridges.
I am unimpressed with the bottom paper tray for 8-1/2" x 11" paper and the quality of print on standard copier paper. The bottom tray is cheaply made, unintuitve to use, has very low capacity, and does not work reliably. Make sure you have the rear paper jam access cover properly inserted if you have trouble with paper feeding from the bottom tray. Print on standard copier paper tends to bleed through to the back of the sheet, so ink usage may be high on plain paper. I only intend to print photos, so these issues are not concerns for me.

I bought this printer in August 2010. I wish I'd seen my own review on the web while researching this printer (yes I did research before buying). There are not enough 1 star reviews for this printer. When the starter cartridges ran out, I replaced them. The black won't print at all, even though I've been given 2 replacement cartridges. The colors print but quality is inferior (too faint). It's probably too late to get my money back so I'll probably have to eat the [$] cost and the $10 2 yr warranty. I'm not gonna spend half the price of the printer to ship it somewhere only to have it return and still not work. It's a brand-new printer. It shouldn't have problems at all.I've checked out reviews and talked to cartridge sales people - this printer has a "print head problem." Why should I have to mess with a new print head, even if they send me one?? The dual paper trays are also very confusing and don't always work properly. The setup took a long time and the manual is confusing - not clearly written and not clearly presented visually.I've always had HP printers, they worked beautifully for years on end. I thought I would take a chance on a Canon... what could go wrong, right?! Never again. Going back to HP.

I got this for my wife for Christmas for one purpose - to print edible pictures for her cakes. Set-up was easy enough but Canon wants you to install their driver/Windows 7 wants to install it's driver (which it did in the background as soon as the USB cable was attached leading to Canon 3600 and Canon 3600(1)) which was irritating. After deleting the Windows 7 driver and aligning the printhead the quality of print on the edilble paper was outstanding. Set to glossy paper and photo output it was worlds better than the store we used to buy these at which charged us $7.00 per copy. Crisp colors and sharp photolike images will allow my wife to keep her customers happy. Only reason I did not give this 5 stars is the paper feeder is kinda flimsy and cheesy and the whole printer is a light plastic.

This product is just the right thing that I got for myself this Holiday Season.
When my Pixma IP 4600 died I thought that it's the end of my association with my Canon Printers. I have had Canon Printers since the introduction of the BCJ 99. And except for some brief moments I dabbled with Epson. But Epson was complicated and temperamental. So I got myself Canon printers. Wow!! What a relief! and How easy life has been. It's too bad that Canon like "Rachel" (from "Blade Runner") can't be forever. But IP 3600 is "Rachel" re-booted!!!!

For the price this is pretty amazing. It is slow I guess but I am not a production shop. Too new to know about the ink usage, always the costliest thing about inkjets.

We ordered 4 of these printers for a recent Help Portrait event where we photographed a stream of families, and printed pictures for them before they left. These printers were great. Cost effective, fast enough, and produced great photos.

While ink is the money maker for Canon and Epson and all printer manufacturers I am impressed by the quality of the photos and documents I have printed from this. Just new but if the ink lasts I'm happy.

We've recommended Canon printers for many years and this Pixma, bought to replace an earlier version that has performed flawlessly since about 1995, is nothing less than I expected.

This Printer works well, paper handles well, but it drinks ink as if it's going out of style.
Easy to set up, cheap enough. The output is stunning as well. Aside from drinking ink, if one cartridge is empty, the printer will not work until it's full. Fine for color work, but if I can't print a letter until I get a new cyan cartridge, I'm not a happy camper.

I bought one for everyday printer. Liked it so I got another week later for daughter.Great document printer and really suprised how well it prints photos. I use iP8500 for photos and it is very close for 4x6. The seperate pigmented black for text was a selling point.Seems to do well on ink consumption and 3rd party ink refills are available.
