The Canon CanoScan 5600F Flatbed Scanner utilizes high-luminance white LED lamps so it is ready to scan immediately, with no warm-up time needed. It delivers scans with color resolution of 4800 x 9600dpi. The built-in auto retouching technology helps correct for dust and scratches on originals, revives faded images, brightens faces and reduces graininess. Seven easy buttons automate the scanning process, so it's simple to scan copy and create e-mails and multi-page PDFs. Furthermore, to save time, you can batch-scan up to six 35mm negative frames or four 35mm slides.

I purchased this scanner to clean up and send out some old 35MM slides, also some old prints. It interfaced beautifully with my computer and was easy to use. We were very pleased with the Canon Pro 9000 printer we puchased some time back and since this scanner had recently won some awards I felt it was a safe bet & it was. As with any new piece of equipment there is always a leaning curve, but the programed instructions really made it very staightforward and I felt very comfortable with it in no time.

Nice scanner except for the main reason I bought the scanner: to scan 35mm film. Poor design of the film strip holder...the film is not flat when being scanned...film strip scans come out soft, not sharp.
It does all else very nicely including 35mm mounted slides...the software and controls are easy to use.
Suggest passing on the Canon 5600 if you expect to do film strip scanning. I returned the Canon and now use the Epson V330...much better film scans.

Comments about Canon CanoScan 5600F Flatbed Scanner:
High quality scanner that almost lives up to its advertisement. It is advertised as requiring no warmup time thanks to its white led, however this is not quite true. I does warmup more quickly then my older Canon scanners, but there is still a small delay.
Qualtiy wise the scans are as close to perfect as can be expected. I have accomplished near perfect copies while scanning at 1200 dpi. When I scanned at 4800 dpi to allow for enlargements it took what seemed forever to complete the scan.
4800 dpi also provided more than adaquite resolution when I scanned both slides and negatives.
In fact, the only shortcoming to this product is the software that accompanies it. This can be overcome by using just the driver and work from Photoshop or Elements.
Overall I am very satisified with this product.

Purchased this scanner to replace my Canon 4400F that died. Speedy scanner, but better than the scanner was Charlie who took my order. Extremely knowledgeable and steered me in the right direction.

Comments about Canon CanoScan 5600F Flatbed Scanner:
I purchased this scanner after researching the field of film scanners with performance and cost both as considerations. The product description for the Canoscan 5600F looked very good. I made the purchase and when it arrived I found that it was quite easy to install. I tested it with full page documents, 35mm color negative film and 35mm slides. It performed very well on all items. It is a little slower than I had hoped but the result of the scans have been excellent. I would have no problem recommending this unit to anyone who is looking for a scanner to be used for purposes like mine. My purpose for purchasing the unit was to be able to scan my hundreds of 35mm slides so they could be condensed to DVDs whic take considerably less storage space while still making them easily available to share with my friends and family.

Comments about Canon CanoScan 5600F Flatbed Scanner:
Exactly what we needed. This is a super great scanner. We have a LOT of 35mm slides that we hoped to scan, and save. This scanner is a charm. We have been able to scan them with no problem. Color is great. We are having a bit of trouble with negative film strips. We cannot get them to line up. I am sure it is operator error, so will be working on that.

Comments about Canon CanoScan 5600F Flatbed Scanner:
This scanner can be used more independently of the software. It has many features accessable by buttons on the front of the scanner. it is a little hard to look up the instructions but you can get used to that. If you leave a little gap between pictures you can fill the platten and it will give you individual scans of each picture.

Comments about Canon CanoScan 5600F Flatbed Scanner:
Canon quality, easily installed. I bought this as a dedicated scanner for 35mm Kodachrome slides. It does an excellent job! At 1200dpi the resulting images are 250-450KB; at 2400dpi, 800-1000KB; and at 4800dpi, 2-4MB. The times to produce four separate digital images were 3.5, 8.5 and 15 minutes! The slide carrier has four slots; thus four images at a time. This is not the machine for rapid mass production.

Comments about Canon CanoScan 5600F Flatbed Scanner:
I had a Canon Lide80 scanner that does not have a new driver that works with my MacBook Pro. Thus, I had to buy a new scanner and, again, bought a Canon brand -- Canon did offer a customer loyalty discount but the B&H price was less! The 5600F is larger than the other one -- the software seems reasonable to use. I haven't tried to scan my old negatives yet -- hope it works.

Comments about Canon CanoScan 5600F Flatbed Scanner:
I purchased this to scan over 2000 slides and am disappointed, first, because scans at the lower resolution choices are not very good and at the higher settings take too long, over 6 minutes for 4 slides at 2400dpi. Second, the accompanying software does not allow the scans to go directly to an SD card or a specific PC file. You have to select the desired location each time and then wait more time for the save to occur. Also, the scanner stopped working after about 20 minutes of use but Canon was great at confirming a problem and replaced it in a few days. I wouldn't recommend this to a friend for large volume slide scanning.

Easy but flexible navigation software allows me to direct where I want scanned pictures and documents stored.
With 7 buttons on front its like a multifunction machine without its own printer.

The scanner works great. Set at a low dpi it scans really fast. The software included has a awesome interface. The OCR wasn't the best, but for included software you can't ask for much more. I would definitely buy this product again.

Comments about Canon CanoScan 5600F Flatbed Scanner:
For the price, this is a great scanner. I needed it primarily for documents, which it does well. However, I can also scan and archive old film and slides. It's slow, but I am not doing too many. The only issue is the software that comes with the scanner to create PDFs is very limiting. It does not allow for rearranging pages and other manipulations that are standard on other scanner software applications I have used.

While I can see that if you were using this scanner on a daily basis or had a very large volume of work it might be too slow for you. For my occasion use this scanner is perfect. It has already paid for itself!
The only disappointment was that I had to immediately upgrade software upon installation. I was in a hurry to test the scanner and this process just added to my wait.

I use the scanner for photos and negatives and it works great, photos scan very quickly and negatives fairly fast as well. I don't regret it one bit. The software was kind of difficult to figure out at first, but once i started scanning using the scanner driver everything worked perfectly and its made me very happy

Comments about Canon CanoScan 5600F Flatbed Scanner:
The software is both easy to start using and quite powerful. However, the basic and advanced controls do not allow for easy transition from easy to advanced. Quick press buttons make routine scanning easy and can be configured for custom scans. The quality of the images is quite hight for [$] and the negative scanner. Overall if you know what you are doing you will be quite happy. If this is your first scanner or is a gift to someone, expect a larger learning curve to get the best scans.large format transparencies cannot be used with the lid scanner like the medium and 35mm negatives. This is a great scanner to scan family 4x5 photos. It will auto detect up to 4 photos on the flat bed and put them into different files in one scan. A great time saver.

I copied both "old" bw photos and color photos. Great quality and ease of use. I like most the ability to copy 4+ photos at the same time and the software creating individual picture files. I have not used the film and slide capability but will soon.
